Thanks for sharing, man my 90 is empty...
I sure miss Valiant, but the sun has not set on this "cow girl". I have a lot of work/maintenance and tank set reviewing to do.
Yep...when horses are stressed they get really dark. But when happy their coloration/highlights shine through

Hmm..I think the coloration depends on more factors. Mine were deep brown (black, in the SH world) and never did change colors. Once in a while some lightening, but nothing very noticable. And, of course, as they aged.
I have also heard they can change color to camoflage.
There was a member quite some time back who had seahorses that changed color very often. She believed it had to do with her very colorful decoration.

I also think it has to do with excitement , just like an octopus, my Kuda would fluctuate golden highlights during dinner time

Mmmmm, yeah. Mine really mostly change very indiscreetly during the feeding time, then back again. Still, I hope they're happy...
I did a 5 gallon water change again today. Both girls love that, shortly after they're out, about and hunting and exploring. I'm pretty sure it's because I stir things edible up.
I've been worried about whether or not the filters that I have on the tank would be as effective with the sponges (to protect the horses) over the intakes. Changed the media out again today and shall I say...well, I'm not worried about THAT anymore!!!
The algae cups are becoming more and more popular with both Appache and Navajo, it's good to see them taking advantage...
More later. Thanks for reading.

Thanks Ryk, nothing much to report today except that very consistently now, both Appache and Navajo are awake and anticipating breakfast. Navajo still takes a little longer to decide to move around to eat in the morning, but I'm getting a better handle on how much mysis to give them and make sure they both have sufficient to hold them til dinner. Mostly, I wait until I've seen each horse snick at least 3 or more mysis, then add just a little more to add to the hunting for the day. Still streamlining, but that might just work.
We spent today (Father's Day) with family, Me, Mike, Beth, Tyler, and Jonah. We went to brunch then left from there to go diving (well, me, Mike and Tyler dove...Beth stayed with Jonah). Next time we all go to the lake, it will be my turn to stay back with Jonah. We want to get on a rotating schedule with staying with him, so we can include the baby in our outings and still keep up with our dive skills.
That's it for now. Thanks again.

I'm spending this evening by myself. Mike is at an EFR (Emergency First Responder) course (he's going to be an instructor), and I haven't heard from Beth today...they must be busy...
SO...I've been spending time maintaining and enjoying the heck out of my tanks. I took a few pics of the sh tank (again), same horses, same tank, different day. I think they've grown a bit already.

I'm questioning over and over...skimmer, or no skimmer. On the one hand, the 2 40gal filters that I have in my (37gal) sh tank really seem to be taking care of things. AND, I keep thinking of the skimmer break in period...bubbles, bubbles, and MORE bubbles. Not to mention the added current.
Would it be so terrible to not use a skimmer in this situation? Both of my filters have flow settings (being bumped up a bit with each water change) and I have a small powerhead. All are breaking the surface water and creating a very nice flow in the tank. As I've previously mentioned, I watch the food when it goes in to check for dead spots and I haven't seen any yet. I do a 5 gallon water change weekly in this tank. I just wanted to throw this out there. Hmmmm...

Haha, look who found me!! Who knew I'd be hanging out here, 'eh?
Thanks for the nice compliments, Jason. The tank is still pretty much a work in progress, but I'm happy with how it's come along. And I'm even happier still with how well Appache and Navajo are doing. Very cool.

LOL, thanks Ryk. As I posted earlier, the tank is still a work in progress, but I'm happy with it so far.
I'll try to get a whole tank picture. It's kinda hard with this one, mostly because of its location. I'm at work now (naughty, naughty), but I'll get some pictures when I get home.
Thanks again.

I'm home now and I think I got the pics you wanted Ryk...and then some, since I was at it anyway. Let me know if this is what you meant for full tank pics...

Yeah, I know we talked about that previously Darth...but I'm finding it really difficult to talk myself into messing that much with their environment and causing undo stress to them. Perhaps further down the line when I feel the time is right, I'll make the switch, but not at this point. The corals are not, and have not been the hitch of choice since I've added the softer hitches. Appache and Navajo have been using the corals about as much as they use the live rock for hitching...so, that's it for now.
Oh, and please don't lose sleep over it, that's not healthy.

I finally got a decent picture of Appache and Navajo tucked in for the night (kinda). Actually Navajo was tucked in under protest, and as you can see, she's still in hunting mode. After I got this picture I went in to get another, she was again out and about...my little night owl. As I type, she's out hunting...bless her heart.
So, anyway, here they are (kinda) tucked in for the night.
