Posiden's 20L

Well its too bad my little fire fish died. The tank tests out at good to go. Just another week in QT and he would have been home free. Things are staring to look a slightly golden color, nothing too crazy yet. I'm close though.

I was thinking of getting a shrimp gobie. I kinda want the Bumble Bee gobie?? I have a pistol shrimp in my 29 that came in as a hitch hiker. I just have to figure out how to get him out of the rock work.

Edit;

Anybody know if I ordered tonight or tomorrow night when it would ship?? I want to order from SWF

Nobody has any ideas on how to get the pistol shrimp out of the rock? I have LPS on this rock so I don't want to do the low salinity idea to get him to run out. Is there any way I can trap him?

entice him with food, then trap him with a net or bowl or something. It'll take a little longer, but start feeding it specifically - a little shrimp or krill in a pair of gripers or skewered on a point held in front of its hiddy hole will usually do the trick (Caution: do not hand feed!). Once it gets used to sticking itself out to feed, move the food further and further away from its hole, and eventually you'll be able to drop a net or bowl or something over it.

Alternately, if you can remove the rock with its hole, place it in a bucket of aquarium water and feed, when the shrimp comes out, simply remove the rock and then you have the shrimp.

Good luck!

Those are good ideas, thanks. I have feed him before off of a device and he was more then willing to accept it. Time I have, so I will start working on it.

Oh yea, I'm thinking of a pair of clark's for this tank. I think they would look pretty nice in there.

Ok, its been a little while. I have been thinking about this tank a lot. Just how do I want it to be and where am I going with it.....
I have got two new power heads for the tank. I got rid of the maxi's. I got the new Korilia Nanos, that move 425 GPH a piece. I hate the HOB filters I have. I have a cascade and the Aqua clear I bought for this tank. The cascade is noisy, and the AC is also noisy along with the fact that it puts bubbles in my tank. So I have decided I want a sump/refug to go behind the tank. After MANY hours of deliberation, I finally concluded that, I should just use the other tank I have to get what I want. My other tank is also a 20L and I have done a lot of work to it. It was originally to be used with a sump, and BeanAnimals drain setup. I am now in the process of a couple slight mods, and it will be running pretty shortly I hope. I will move the sand and most if not all the rock from the current setup to the new tank.
Here is a couple shots to entice you all. I hope you enjoy.
I removed the trim from the top. I then cut the back glass to make an external OF box. This is one of the mods. No need for an OF anymore. I then cut a euro brace in the shape of a horse shoe out of glass. I also placed a couple of pieces of glass in the corners and one along the front panel to give it a super strong top. I used Mr.Wilson's method of DIY rock in this tank a while back. At one time the DIY rock covered the entire bottom of the tank, so there would be no sand in the DT. I removed the bottom layer and kept the back wall. Along with a nice pillar. I also have a nice light fixture in the making. More on that project later on.
I plan on stopping the carbon source that I'm dosing and running a ball of cheato. This along with the heater in my DT is what drove me to this. I am also going to drop one of the PHs and run just one. I think 625 GPH total is plenty of turn over for this tank. Any way, I've rambled enough. Here are the pics. If there any Q's please ask.
This is where the tank started and was headed. 3 are drains and the 4th was to be the return line. You can see the upper trim is gone, and I cut the glass on the tank. I also added the OF box to the outside.

This is the rear brace I did.

This is the front brace.

This is the euro brace. You can also see the wall.

Here is the back wall from the viewing angle. I'm not sure what the crazy pattern is in the first pic.

Here is a better shot of the OF box being modded. I'm siliconing on a piece of glass to the bottom of the OF box to seal off the old drain holes. I also placed a piece of glass along the back of the tank, to make a smaller area to flow into the box. This way I can have a direction of flow through there.

I think you will find critters including fish will cause you to do something to block them. Looks good. Is the rockwork all rock or did you use some pond foam too?

Wilson's method is to use Hydraulic Water stop. Its very controversial to use a water proof cement. The up side to this is it cures in minuets and one can keep working. I mixed in CC to give it the texture it has. What you see in the pics is all cement. Its pretty heavy. Just for kicks I might weigh it.
When the bottom was covered, I did place pond foam down and then I covered it up. That's the dark spots in the first pic in post # 72. A little bit of foam still stuck to the glass. That way I didn't have 5-6" of solid cement in there.
Edit;
Oh, it still need a month to cure large pieces or additions of the mix. That due to the PH thing. However, the month long dry time is dry. Meaning there is no need to soak it in water and change it and wait, and wait, and wait. My fresh water rinse will come from the water testing of the tank.

Well I finished the rock wall today. I also built the return plumbing piece. I still need to paint the top of the return piece and put faux rock on the very tip of the the return. Never the less, I have started sea trials. Since I'm still waiting on the silicone to cure, I have only filled the display side of the tank. It will sit static until the silicone is ready. Then I will fill it the rest of the way and fire the pump.

This tank is going to be sick!
Thanks man. It shouldn't be much longer before I can put the water, sand, rock, and fish from the current setup in there.
Oh, wait........Did I say fish??

Yea, I know. I wanted to see who was reading and who was just looking. LOL. Thank you.
Sea trials have been fully underway since yesterday. I didn't/don't have any leaks. Everything seems to be working just like I had hoped. The PH reading today was only 8.4, so it looks like the rock has cured just fine. I'm going to let it sit a little longer to see if it goes up any more. Maybe I'll do a water change on it to flush things out.
