To help keep the sump cool, you can insulate the stand.
Can you explain what you mean a little clearer?
Foam around the sump inside the stand is the same thing right? The back is open because of all the hoses and wires...I can't close that up, so putting the foam around the acrylic tanks will have to do. I have a 24g sump and an 18g refugium that overflows into the sump. There is a Y connector that divides the hose from the overflow to run simultaneously to the fuge and sump
As you can see there is not much space.

IMO I think it would be too much work to take everything apart to insulate the actual stand. Yes, foaming the parts you can reach will have to do. Again, this is just precautionary to help keep the water cool and the chiller from dying an early death.
You know, I read a thread from a guy (who obviously has too much money on his hands) who said he rthought that anyone getting into cold water tanks should really buy TWO chillers...one as a backup in case the first fails. Now, I understand the logic, but yikes...that's a big initial investment there.
(On the other hand, I'm ordering a backup return pump for the big tank before I set it up....ya know, just in case. I guess I'm only slightly less nuttier than that guy.)

Picture update:
I was thinking of purchasing a third chiller...since I have two tanks that need them. Next year at tax time... LOL...I don't $500.00 to plunk down at the moment. However worse case I would run the AC in my bedroom for the Kuda tank, thats what I did before I got the chiller for them. The Pot belly tank however I can't do that because of my mother, she chills so easy.... with the AC on 77 she is uncomfortable...that tank is right in the living room.
Well I got the 90g cleared of old coraline (white blotches), and I got the air bubbles out from the back of the plastic background....
Here is a before and after picture.
Before:

After...Now I'm happy.

I agree. If I were closer, I would offer to help with insulating everything. I think having a backup chiller would be a great idea down the road.

UPDATE:
My chiller is on-line. I'm waiting to see how well it holds the cold...it works pretty good, after just 15 minutes of running the tank went down a degree....I set it for 69 right now and it started at 77.9 once it reaches the goal temperature, I will wait to see how long before it has to cut back on to maintain the temp. Then do the same with insulation installed and see the difference.
I have not gone to the hardware store for insulation yet. I seem to have plenty of open space on either side of my sump inside the stand...I was thinking about using the expanding foam on the ends and the panels on the sides so I can remove them if I have to service the sump for whatever reason. That foam breaks out pretty easy on a rock wall..Can I assume the same if I use the white expanding foam insulation? ... Do you think the foam is a good idea?
LOL...I was thinking two sided tape on the DT will hold the insulation panels up.

Huh. I'm not sure if the expandofoam is a good idea. I can't say why specifically, but I just think it's overkill and might be a PIA to clean if you need to remove. The sheets will be cheaper anyway.

UPDATE:
I have a new problem....The power went out for a microsecond, just enough for the house to go black then everything went back on. Both of my new power heads are now loudly clicking, I unplugged them. Are they ruined? What can I do to fix the problem besides replace them. They are brand new and used two days...although I purchased them about a month ago. It isn't the manufacturers fault and I doubt they will replace them.

you dont have them on a surge protector?? (and if you do you should contact that company for reimbursement)
but you may have to unplugg and plugg them back in a few times to see if they reset..Im not sure if they will though :(

I have a spare...I tried a few times to get them to stop clicking...I don't think it will reset...all of my fish stuff is on GFCI outlets, I didn't think I needed a surge protector.

YIPPEE!!! congrats on that.. and yes even though you have a GFCI you still need surge protectors.. on all expensive electronics (TV, stereo, SWF stuff, portable oxygen generators...)
