My point is if your asking the tax payers to help feed the family then you better have exhausted your resources such as Selling your cool car,tv, disconect your cellphone , Don't go get your nails done, don't be buying beer, cigerettes ,blunt wraps, no new Jerseys for your favorite team/players new season, You sure as hell don't need to get the matching basball hat to go with it, No new Nike air force one's . You need to get your broke self at least one FULL TIME job for every adult in the house .

I have a family member 'in the system'. This person has a PS3, a Wii, an XBOX 360, cable tv with EVERYTHING, satellite TV (yes both cable and satellite), and more flat screen tv's then the sony commercial where the chicken wants to beat up the guy that says he doesnt like sports.
When this person is handed everything, why change? The only hardship in this persons life is waiting for the next monthly check.
Food and housing is covered, so that leaves money to buy lots of toys. Not a decked out SUV in this case, but every other gadget.

The majority of substance abusers are poor because they are too messed up to hold down a job. ACORN hires them for a few months every two years but that doesn't pay their stem and steel wool costs for the year.

Even rich socialist presidential candidates have been known to use drugs in the past.

Just go downtown Akron. That will show you.

just go to the Division of Family Services in STL. I had to go there once a few years back becasue what I needed fell under the umbrella of DFS. Most of the folks in there had better hair, makeup, nails and clothes and bling.
All races........
All I know is sometimes in line at the grocery I see the card come out and it pays for certain things. Then a lot of cash comes out for the cigs, beer, dog food etc on a seperate purchase.

Let me tell you a welfare story. I have nothing to back it up except my sacred honor.
I was working in the ER one evening. I had left my wife along at home after she miscarried her first pregnancy. We had be trying for almost a year, we got the good news, then ..BAM we lost the baby. That night at work I saw a 17 year old on welfare. She was there with her 3rd pregnancy. She was just a few weeks along, and I diagnosed a miscarriage. She actually cheered and was happy she was miscarrying. I cam very close to homocide that night. I'm not proud of it, but it was all I could do to keep from beating the S^&( out of her.
That is how welfare queens ( and kings) think and act, and my freaking tax money makes it possible.

But the majority of the people who use those resources are in need...One way to fix it is to make education more accessible... that is the best way to bring someone out of poverty..

Just to stir the pot...I get the point that most of you are angry for people taking government aid and using to buy cigs, beer, etc. Can we all agree that this is a form of stealing? I can agree that you feel they are stealing your tax dollars.
Let me know if any of the following scenarios sounds like your household, your friends house, or your tax returns?
What about the investment property owner who buys a new fridge for his rental property and writes off the $800. Except the new fridge goes into his primary residence and the beer fridge in his garage for the 15 years goes to the rental property. Is that cheating the system?
How about SUV loop hole a couple years back? Lot's of people were buying BMW X5s and righting them off as work / construction SUVs when those things never left an asphalt road much less do construction.
Salesman who claim to drive 120,000 miles a year on their taxes when they are lucky to break 40K?
Heck here is an easy one...the employee who sits on this board during work hours debating multiple political threads on company time, is that stealing?
I could go on but you get my drift. For those of you claiming that all or even a majority of low income people are beating the system living the "good life", get out of your cushy homes and head downtown to Chicago / Cleveland / Detroit and work a soup kitchen. Tell me the percentage of Escalades you see with big rims? Not many...more likely there are chrome rims with spinners on a 1988 Corolla but that is another crime all together.
Moral of this post, some low income people are beating the system but a hell of a lot more middle and upper class are taking advantage of it too. I would imagine some posters on this thread fit that bill.

trying to extend the system for a few extra tax credits while paying taxes is a little different than just sucking the system because you are lazy. Receiving thousands yes THOUSANDS of tax free dollars a month in the form of food, rent, insurance etc is totally different, ALL while you are perfectly healthy enough to get a J.O.B of any sort!!! NOW if that person has job and working their arse off and needs assistance, BY ALL MEANS!!!! go for it.
If you lived around here there are signs of "NOW HIRING" everywhere.
go figure, work available.....no one needs a job.

Alright, let's see where to start.
First off, once my inheritance money comes out of probate, which should take about 15 months, I DO plan on helping my grandparents pay off their house. Any decent human being would. And believe me, at every possible moment I get some extra money, I help them do something to fix up their home.
As far as the "24 inch rims and the SUV" comments.
You people are all GROSSLY misinformed if you think the majority of people on welfare and using WIC are driving $40,000 SUV's. That's just plain untrue. Go to any welfare office in any big city and do a survey of the parking lot. I can guarantee you for every one Escalde you see, there are 20 beat down Corsica's and Cavalier's.
And I'm guessing the people who DO drive the big SUV's are probably getting their money through some illegal activity. And then, on top of that, they get free food... Because let's face it, drug dealers aren't reporting their earnings to the IRS.
The more I think about it, the more it's becoming less sad, and more ironic.
You all say how this is America, and if you are smart enough, and work hard enough to achieve greatness... you should reap the benefits!
Well realistically, I'm starting to think maybe you are just a little peeved that these "dumb, poor" people figured out how to make a living doing absolutely nothing but having s e x, making babies, drinking, sleeping all day...while you work your butts off 60 hours a week earning about the same thing.
Sounds like one of you is pretty smart, and the other is pretty stupid... wouldn't you say?
But like you all say, if you are smart enough, then by all means reap the benefits...

I absolutely agree. Not telling the truth is lying and stealing is stealing, no matter how or how much. Be it on welfare programs or offshore bank accounts, what's wrong is wrong. Kudos for calling it how it is. I do get tired of supporting the deadbeat portion of the welfare recipients, though.

What we're peeved about is the freakin Liberals using our hard earned tax dollars to buy off the votes of the lazy in our country by supporting their perpetual addiction to government handouts....

You won't have to because your parents will do it with their share, and I'm sure you realize that.

The food is not free. You and I are paying for it, as is your grandfather.

People are tired of paying them to propagate. FYI, I work 10-20 hrs a week.

Again, I agree with your closing statement 100%
Obama will take away this right to keep your earnings. He will, IMO, take from you and give to the lazy...I mean poor.

Okay to touch on the drugs and alcohol thing. Most research will say that the reason that the poor use most often is lack of education. There is figure that I read that says that an individual with a 4 years degree is 54% less likely to smoke. If you know all of the reasons you shouldn't do something you are far less likely to do it. I don't believe it is to deal with being poor at all. That is huge cop out.

Okay people. I work for the Department of Economic Security in Phoenix. I am a case reader. This means I check to make sure that the interviewers complete their cases correctly and issue out the correct amount of benefits to the families. I was an interviewer for 3+ years. My office issues over 2 million in benefits every single month.
I will tell you that there are very few people driving around in Escalades. We report them to investigators if they are because obviously they are making more than they are reporting. I will tell you what the biggest taker of the money is honestly is illegal citizens. It is a huge problem here just because they get benefits for any child born into the US. So if a woman has 6 children born here but she is Mexican and cannot work legally, it is difficult to track her income. She will get around 800 a month in food stamps. Janet Nepolitano just wrote a huge bill to the federal government for the price of housing so many illegal citizens. Many times they are working under the table or have someone in the home giving them money that they are not reporting.
But for every one of them, there is another family who immigrated legally that pays taxes and is waiting the 10+ years it takes to even try to get their citizenship for this country.
Out of all the jobs I could have right now, I am fortunate to have this one even though I don't make as much as some of my clients. My job is the most secure one there is. We receive something like 200 applicatons a day for benefits because so many have lost their jobs, their homes, their retirements. It is truly disheartening. I hope that no matter who gets voted in for president, that they will figure out a way to make it easier on our middle to lower class. They need it more than you realize.
