We are dealing with the capital gains tax issue on a few properties we bought in Kansas City. Neighbors are furious that we bought them and are being childish. Offloading them will cost us unless we are able to do an approved exchange(?). We are meeting with our CPA to discuss it next month.
Anybody here have info on the process...feel free to post or PM me.
So you purchased some property and the neighbors aren't happy you purchased property? Are you trying to develop it into a walmart or something?

that is the lamest cop out I have ever heard.
its more to the effect that they spend money on drugs instead of furthuring their lives.
just one bag of pot is say about $30, if that money was to buy groceries instead of drugs they sure as hell wouldnt need my tax money. cigarrettes are about 6 bucks a pack give or take, at a pack a day thats roughly $42 a week, a six pack of cheap beer is about 6 bucks plus tax and deposit, say a 6 pack a night (seeing as many of these people come in and buy 2-3 6 packs a night I'm being overly generous here) another $42 so in one week these "needy" are blowing
over $112 on stuff they dont need and spending food stamp money junk food. $ 112 that is almost half a weeks take home pay for the job I currently have. notice I didnt even put in lottery, or blunt wraps (I friggen hate blunt wraps) who the heck honestly thinks these things are used for tobacco? or rolling papers, yes folks on foodstamps can Buy DRUG PARAHENALIA with our tax money. great isnt it.

Could it possibly partly be the other way around? Could it be drug and alcohol abuse lead to poverty?
in many ways it does... but drug and alchohol abuse is not limited to any segment of the population or economic class. There are even people who are worth $100 million who abuse drugs.

Nope...(though we are now considering it in retaliation
)
They are just being mean people. I think they are mad that they didn't buy it when they had the chance. The poperty had not been kept up for years and was owned by the county for tax reasons. We bought it dirt cheap and the neighbors called the city and turned us in for lack of lawn maintenance. We are talking YEARS of growth. Bid to clear it was $3600. We paid $500 for the 2 lots in question. We also bought 2 lots across the street from it.

So?
The point is, drug and alcohol abuse can lead to poverty; Therefore, some segment of the population who is poor has brought their condition completely upon themselves.

I am not going to disagree with you that people buy things that are not essential... however we are making generalzations... and no they can not buy the items you mentioned via their food card... but why do people who have drinking problems drink? What does a cig do? It releaves stress or makes people forget their problems...

I don't know what is in your "cig" but mine never did that...
Still waiting for statistics supporting your vast majority claims...

You're right, but they CAN AND DO get cash back. That is why they hold items back to pay in a different transaction. Cash, man, cash.

And there it is... once again.
Rylan, people are responsible for their own actions... I've got plenty of stress in my life. I don't drink or smoke.

People are responsible for their own actions. Often, people are responsible for their own situations in life. Don't like the school your kids are in? Move... live in a poor school district and can't afford to move? Don't have kids until you can afford to get them into a decent school district.
People need to quit sitting around with their hands out waiting for the Government and realize they are responsible for their own lives.

yes... pretty much any addiction can leave you homeless and so forth... drugs, alchohol, gambling, etc. One thing that is interesting is that #1 form of drug abuse is from prescription drugs... and these people tend to have regular jobs ... there was a situation where I work where a lady has to take pain

[hr]
because of a condition... she kept her

[hr]
at work because her husband became addicted... and at work someone would steal them...

I agree to some degree.... but some people continue to make bad choices... or have made a bad choice... I support helping them so they can help themselves...

I also support helping those that want to help themselves. The people you want to help, dont want to help themselves, and NEVER will help themselves.

As do I, which is why I served 12 years in the ministry and emphasized community and mission work to my youth so heavily.
That said, it's not the Government's job...

I support helping people help themselves. Giving an able-bodied person money unconditionally is not helping them, it is propogating a multi-generation welfare class.

Still won't do it? Come one. Surely you have a reason for what you think...
I didn't make any such statement, however, I too have seen people getting the check with 40k sunk into their cars... I've been in more than one shack, where they get the check and they have a 4000 dollar TV in their living room.
