Well if the tank is 27" deep, figuring on maybe 25" of water in the tank and a 15" high platform, that's only 10"... when you add rocks to the top of that, you won't have but maybe 6". That means that a 4" coral will come to within 2" of the surface of the water...
So yes, too high. My tank is 24" tall and I'd say my platform was about 8" tall and that was way too much. You'll want a pile of rock on the top, not just a single layer - which won't look realistic.

Hey SCSI... where did you put your 4 Koralia #4's? I put 2 in the back (pointing somewhat forward) and then 1 on each side (L and R). I had to turn off the 2 in the back b/c they just kept blowing away the sand in the front of the tank.... Where are your Koralias?

I bought 4 of them, but actually only have one running in there at the moment.
It seemed as though with two going I didn't have any place with slow enough flow to put some of my lower flow stuff like my Gonioporas, hammers, etc.
So being a mixed tank, I put a Koralia on one side, then arranged the higher flow stuff (SPS, etc) over there, then put the lower flow stuff more towards the other side. That seemed to work out well. I am thinking about adding the second one in the middle, but I'm not sure. As soon as I get some pics, I'll post them.

Surely you need more than one powerhead for flow, how much flow is coming from your sump/fuge?

Talk about a cliffhanger. Have to wait an entire month to see pics of the tank with corals and fish in it. Been a long time since anyone bumped this thread so I thought I would.
Hopefully the wedding went well :)

Great build SCSI
I've been watching this thread and waiting for updates for a while. But I just got done reading this quote in another thread were someone was asking were's SCSI? so I couldn't resist checking this thread and reading about all these great updates on your build.
Here's what you said..
"I do however have one more thing to kind of admit... I have made a lot of progress on my 180g, but have been really bad about pictures... there is tons of progress and maybe a few pictures to show for it. I frankly have been kind of worried about facing up to you guys about it... "
So were's all the updates? It's time to face up man. WE WANT UPDATES!!! WE WANT UPDATES !!!
