Maybe you could look at lower priced stuff you could add on or remodel to make into your own. Not sure if that's possible in the area you are looking in.
Zillow.com is a pretty good source for home buying. Not necessarily for current value but for what homes are selling for.
I was a little off on the figures for the house next door to my Mom's. Got this off Zillow

I've now looked through every house out there. These 4 are all that is left to look at. The rest will be as they pop up on the market. We are looking at everything but don't really want to have to do major renovations.
Here's some pics of one house we are lookign at today. I can see some great places for tanks.

Where that lion fountain is... that a tank wall for sure....

First living room

Second

I love the front entranceway

wow, thats pretty. The fountain is...interesting. I agree with you, the better choice is a tank. I would make the living room your family room, so nice and open.
Good luck

There' won't be a living room... there will tank room 1, tank room 2, tank room 3... etc etc. :)
The street level maps are scary cool. We just noticed something on the map next to one and was wondering if it was a cemetery. So I simply "walked" down the street and looked at the sign. Technology is crazy cool.
It's a nice big park.
Would you guys want to live next to a cemetery? It wouldn't bother me, and like Greg said... the neighbours would be quite. The concern would be resale, of course. But who would live next to one and who would not?

Say several houses down.... only a couple of houses between you and the spirits :)
Now, I wouldn't do it because of resale problems.
Peeps around here are really afraid of the dead.

I said the same thing as your hubby as I was reading that. I really wouldn't care if a cemetary was around me. My grandma's house had "issues" for as long as I can remember. We just learned to live with it. No cemetaries around either.
Will your kids have to switch schools or no...?
p.s. I LOVE the google map thingy. Just click on the little walking guy and you can be a nosey neighbor from miles and miles away.

I found one across the street from a cemetary, The wife was a little weird about it but I thought it would be cool. Open space is nice however you get it. Living next to a park can be good and bad.

LOL... old pics.... I hope.
The park is far enough down the road so that I can't hear it... or have to deal with people cramming up the sidewalks with their cars. I'm a day sleeper... noise is a big consideration.

When i buy a house, I want to live in it fo a couple days before I make the decision. I wonder how that will go in the negotiations.

I don't think it would be possible to find out before making an offer on a home, but for me I think it would depend on the size of the cemetery and the 'active-level' on new additions. If it's a real modest cemetery not more then 100 spots total and rarely is someone new put in, I wouldn't see a problem. One with acres and acres of graveyards, and there's 2 or 3 funerals a day, I really don't think so. Either way though a property bordering a cemetery would be a no-go.
