Come on seth, show us your awesome skills with wood and finish this beast. Then we can progress to different things that can razzle dazzle everyone lol.
The problem is finding the time. :( This Saturday, I have to build a canopy for a guy... over the course of the next three Saturdays. I'm booked! I'll have to somehow find the time to do it though. It needs to be done.
I'm still kinda thinking how I can "fill the gap" between my tank and the wall... I know I need a side cabinet, but I was also thinking of building a book case with some cabinets at the bottom so that my daughter can't really get into it. Maybe something for the office in the kitchen area. I don't know. It would be nice to have a place to put all the office supplies and even have room to fit my school books. right now they are just everywhere I can find a spot that is high enough that my daughter can't reach. (mainly the kitchen table)

Looks like someone is getting a real nice camera!!! Can't wait to see sweet pics.
Yeah, I just got another +1 on a D80 on my other thread. I took a look at all the pictures and it really does seem like it has to do a lot with the photographers skill - with any DSLR camera. I don't know if I should go with the more expensive D5100 or the cheap D80... all from Nikon. Who knows what I will end up with. I found someone selling a D5000 in my local area with an 18-200mm AF lens all for $425. I thought it was a pretty good deal until I looked up the specs on the D5000. I think I still want to end up with the D5100, regardless at this point. I just have to find it for a fair price.

Went to the LFS this afternoon. Ooops.
I bought:
1 purple pseudochromis
1 large feather duster
3 new SPS frags
1 frogspawn frag
1 green/orange zoanthid colony
All for about $100. Not bad, really.
I have been looking at ReefBright LEDs... they use 3w CREE LEDs... they are $225 per 4' strip of them. They have a daylight, actinic and 50/50 strip. I was looking at buying two of these strips and using my T5's as supplementation. I think that this will give a good quality light and be enough for SPS to do well. I want to get rid of halides all together, and if I see that the SPS corals are doing well under the LEDs without the T5's, I might phase out the T5's all together. Just don't really know at this point.
I know, however, that I am impressed with the ReefBright LEDs, even though the ones I looked at aren't dimmable.
So,... On my "to buy" list:
2 ReefBright LED strips
1 APEX Unit
1 Octopus Ca Rx 125 w/ CO2
1 canopy
1 side cabinet
1 skimmer neck cleaner
1 seachem test kit
and then I will be happy for a little while.

As a side note, I learned how to fix my car's horn today. Then went and got an inspection on my car done. While I was at it, I had them check the car out - and replaced the oil, air filter and flushed my radiator. $150 later...

I dunno, honestly.
I plugged my speakers back in after I cleaned them and made sure all the connections were there. Then, I took off the front part of my steering wheel to get to the horn, where I knew it had broken inside. I didn't really know what I was looking for, so I unplugged everything and found a broken part... I taped it back together with electrical tape. I found the actual horn button and made sure there was a solid connection. I made sure that there was a ground wire connected to the whole thing and I put it back together and somehow or another it worked. I didn't really watch any videos or ask anyone how to do it. I just kinda tinkered around with it.
I'm acclimating my corals right now while cleaning house.
What do you think of my swag?

Better build quality = more money... I don't have the kinda cash to shell out $500 on a reactor alone. The Octopus Ca125 is $230 and I am using pretty much all octopus brand products... I can't reason it out to spend so much more on just a reactor. Unless you can give me a specific reason...

By the way, I just noticed that my sump is starting to become really well populated with different assorted sponges. Some cryptic, some pinks and some reds. Neat stuff. Though, I'm going to research that red one just to be sure.

Hey Seth....Dang I'm sorry about your internet browser! Hope you get it fixed soon.
At least, that's what I'm assuming. I guess the "Insert Image" function isn't working for you, because of COURSE you know the correct procedure for reporting new fish purchases....

I Cant say productive, but it was fun for sure!!!
Bought $100 of corals and fish then went and spent $250 on a camera and accessories. Good day.
Im still researching those reefbright leds. They say that one strip equates to about 1.5x a t5 bulb. So if i buy two of those strips it is like adding 3 more t5 bulbs. But, the PAR rates are only slightly better.

Hey Seth, you may already know this,I'm checking on the apex unit too,I have the Eco exotic LEDs,if I buy meanwell dimmable drivers I can control and dim the lights with the apex unit. They also use the 3 watt LEDs but underpower them for longevity and a few other reasons from what I'm told.I have been conversing back and forth with ecoexotic, and I believe the e mail said I could buy 2 60watt dimmable meanwell drivers and hook it to the apex unit and control one channel of blues and one channel of whites on two 48 inch fixtures.in other words one channel would control the blue in both fixtures and one channel the white in both fixtures. Just FYI in case you didn't know. I would think the reef brights would be similar. I also found out Ecoxotic also has their own stand alone programmable remote one touch controller out now that does dimming and other features with a programmable hand held remote, then the apex would not be needed for that. Just things to consider.

I personally dont want to have to build or tinker with led lights. I thought i would want to try and figure it all out but by the time i bought a kit and worked on it, i could have done my entire semesters worth of homework, including chemistry. Right now anything that saves me time and effort is golden. My time is at a premium right now but i still want to be able to enjoy my tank with leds.
That is why i am researching led strips and what-nots that i can use for my tank instead of the diy route.
Which, i still need some suggestions for reasonably priced led lights for my tank that i can use with my t5s as supplements. I am still looking at the reefbrite leds. Suggestions?
I got paid today and i have $1500 to spend on my tank. Woohoo. Help me spend it. Lol

I am still very new to the hobby, but if the cost of led lighting is prohibitive I have seen several discussions on other sites talking about evergrow leds from a company out in china. You can find them on ebay. I don't know if they are any good because most negative reviews tend to consist of "it is from china!" Personally for my tank im going with either stevesled or a diy makerled array.
