so did you cut away part of the back so that the light could be mounted on the side or are you mounting it differently. You'll have to let us know how you like it after it's been in use for a little while.
On my nano there is just a black acrylic sticker around the sump area. So I scraped it off with an xacto knife, to fit the area of the magnetic led light. [the second chamber is right in the middle, so its mounted on the back wall of the tank, not side].
Pretty simple, the price on the light is a little steep at 70 bucks though. Not quite frugal like nanonewb's clip on light. But I'm able to have the light without having to modify my hood.
So I got a pound of live rock rubble for my second chamber. Filled it under and around the Chaeto. Also got a small piece of monticap (the red/orange coral that branches out in plates?) Gonna add that to the main pillar or front rock. Gotta give it room to branch out
Thats cool I've never seen that light before. Nor did I know that the back was just stickered over glass. Hope that works out perfect for your chaeto. Do you have anything else in your second chamber. Did JBJ cover the cost of the new transformer or ballast (whatever blew)?
The light was just released on Monday the day I got it. So its kind of new to say the least. The owner of the LFS was running up to JBJ to switch out my ballast when he brought it back for stocking. HAHA
( the ballast was still covered under warranty, since something shorted in the ballast; very cool they handled that )
The second chamber only has chaeto and live rock now.
Sweet I was hoping you didn't have to pay for that. I'm not sure if you should put live rock in your chamber because I've heard that it can harbor nitrates, detritus, etc (similar to the bio ball problem) so you may want to ask one of the seniors about that. I know it seems counter intuitive since we put lr and ls in fuges but thats just what i've heard in regards to the nano situation, may be wrong though. I'm gonna post a fts and a couple more pics if your interested. Can't wait for a couple weeks so i can get some new stuff.
thank you Meowzy. Honestly I would love it if he had an affinity to it. He just happens to like to follow me when I take pictures of things. So he's ALWAYS in the pictures! just a coincidence.
Yea it must have been a long time cause you got a whole bunch of new stuff. IT looks awesome dude! The zoos on the top middle are those glued up there, looks excellent!
Thanks man. I rearranged the two rocks furthest back recently, which now have the zoas and paly's attached to em. That changed it up a bit, gave it a lil more balance.
The zoas on the middle are glued with a coral super glue. I got the big band cluster of red and greens up there for $5! Partly because it wasn't attached to any base rock.
So I had a bit of a hiccup on Sunday. I had manually turned on my lighting since I was up earlier than the usually turn on time (2:30, so it stays on till 10:30). Went to my gf's that night and never turned off the manual override switch on my timer. So Monday I get home from work and my tanks covered in algae and the water temp was above 86. I killed the lights and put a frozen plastic thermos thing in my sump. Got the temperature down to 82 within 2 hours. Left the lights off for the remainder of the day......
Everything looks ok, except I may have fried the Torch. One of the tentacles has a bubble on the end, and one of the newly splitting heads has limp tenatacles
We'll see how it looks today. I'm worried because I'm going on a vacatino to Cabo soon for five days. So I won't be able to do anything to the tank. I'm planning on just feeding a bit more than usual today and tomorrow and leaving the tank with the timers running correctly!
Typically I only have to top off my tank every 4 or 5 days. I may remove the surface skimmer on my intake, and lower my salinity tonight when I do a 25% water change so that if there is some evaporation it wont' matter if the overall tank level drops a half inch and salinity increases.
So I did a 25% water change, got a calcium tester, I've been a bad aquirist (shh!), but it was at 460 ppm, I only add about 5 drops of purple tech a week to the tank.
Heres some new picutres, oh and good news NO more limp tentacle! Everyone seems to have survived the heat wave.
