Hats off to you for being among the wise who do their research before getting thier equiptment/livestock.

I'm looking into trying to find a good used "properly drilled" tank preferably with two overflows so I can get started with some flow and refugium numbers. (In the 90 to 125gal range) I plan on DIYing professional looking oak cabinetry for a fully enclosed tank with plenty of fuge, pump, ballast, plumbing, and storage room. (I'm a carpenter so it's no biggie to me) Settled on that early in reading this thread when Squidd was having so much trouble getting his "ideal" refugium into Leona's stand. I don't want anything outside of the cabinets, and I want plenty of space. My 55 freshwater is full of stuff, and there's nowhere near the amount of stuff needed for SW. I missed a good cheap tank within driving range on here about a week ago.......still kicking myself over that
I'm in no real hurry for a complete setup, just wishing for a tank so I can start picking out pumps, skimmer, building my stand, and figuring out where to put it. Until then I can't put all this info to use though. So I guess I'll just keep shopping aroung.
Anyone know of any other good sites with classifieds? Or good cheap tank builders? I like the price Leona got on hers, but would rather get used tank for less......if it can be found.
Until then, research, research, research! Concentrating on tank/refugium setup and all the processes of naturally maintaining water quality now. If I could get a tank cycled by the end of the summer, I would be happy, but that's not even a real deadline for me. Trying to take it slow.

450rguy your welcome to come and finish the trim and all on my set-up.....It's taken me a "little" longer then what I hoped. But that's the way it is.
As for the tank in classifieds I'm really not sure but I will keep my eyes open if I come across one here or another site.

Hey squidd this was interesting reading. I am moving from a 55 to a 125 and I also had/have questions about the plumbing. My first is can I get a regular 55gal drilled to house a bulk head? Will this weakin the tank? I want to use my 55 as a sump/fuge. What are your thoughts?

Hey squidd this was interesting reading.
Yeah, it's somewhat entertaining... :D
Unfortunately, it has been reduced to "interesting reading" after we lost all the pics and diagrams with the forum "upgrade" last week...

Oh well that's progress...
Back to your question..yes you can drill an "existing tank...probably just the back or side though as a tank that size has a "tempered" bottom...
With careful hole placement, it won't weaken the tank to an "unusable" condition...

Is there a way to get the pictures back? I would really like to understand this thread more. I need to make sure how I will do the plumbing in my tank is correct. I have no room for errors.

Have you all considered a "Sump/refugium for dummies" series?
"Plumbing 101" seems to have graduated and maybe it even needs a supplemental!!
VERY GOOD STUFF!! THANKS TO ALL CONTRIBUTORS!!

Since plumbing is still connected to the sump/fuge I'm ok.
I will leave starting any more "101" classes to someone else.

Unfortunatly, if you look back to the threads "pre-change" .... we don't have the edit feature to go back and insert pics...
I tried it with my "DIY MH Lighting" thread and can't "resubmit" pic...
We might have to cut and paste or "rewrite" the whole thread and add pics then....

I have all the pictures saved on my computer I will re-post them but it just won't be in the order of the how the thread went.

Could be, all I need is a victim.... I mean willing participant with genuine interest and cash to spend...as well as a desire to carry through to the end...
We could talk "theory" all day long, but it's when you are "actually" into it and truely need the details... that is when it all starts to click...
It would also require a participant with limited knowlage of ALL phases of setup as so many are related and need to be concidered when putting together a "system"...
Otherwise there are hundreds of threads on "Item specific" questions...
