Squidd.......Teach me.....DYI:Plumbing 101 on a SW Tank

It would take creative authoring rather than a direct translation. We do have two basic plans to work from, (origional plan and upgraded plan) but the "book" would require more discussion of principles than a specific plan.

Is there any easy way to extract all 16 pages to a text/html? I'd be willing to tackle the project if I had text to start from.

Looks good DS...
Keep it going..feel free to paraphrase as needed...
Any clarification you need I'd be glad to help...

There will probably be places where I'll need some of the data in your head to make charts that will be general to many tanks rather than this specific one.

Yeah, I tried that, but it's still 17 pages, ie 17 seperate files. For now I'm working straight from the origional. It's going to take some time. Feel free to check out the above link and make comments as I progress. I'm getting a bit done every day or two.
I'm a bit stuck right now, anyone have a chart of pipe diameters and max flow ratings? Preferably seperate charts for overflow holes, straight pipe ratings, and siphon ratings.

Can't you just copy past that into word processor? I know its a lot of work, but perhaps the end result will help out alot of people if we start perserving great info in the archieves. Also, not every post would need to be recopied.
Will you all be able to reinstate pictures back into this as well? Do you want to set up a another thread to work with? I can go back and delete any new posts to it just so we have a pure info thread.

Guess what!! I think we just got pic posting ability back in this thread! I just posted the blue ric in the first post!
So, for those of you who have contributed pics, please try it. If it doesn't know, let me know, and I will work it.

For Gravity Drain" Flow you can safely figure...
3/4" = 330 gph
1" = 600 gph
1 1/4" = 910 gph
1 1/2" = 1300 gph
1 3/4" = 1800 gph
2" = 2350 gph
2 1/4" = 2960 gph
2 1/2" = 3650 gph
2 3/4" = 4450
3" = 5280 gph
These are "safe" numbers and you may be able to get "just a little more" out of them...( depending on your relative elevation and length of drain line) but they are a good place to start..
*************************************************************************
What do you mean by "siphon rating"...? U tubes..? I don't have a chart, but this is a dissertation on "sizing" U tubes to match flow...https://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/show...=sizing+u+tube

Then I guess I can reinstate pics, however, that was not the case before. I had to recreate the threads I have up in the Disease Forum.
Ok, if you all are game, I am willing to reinstate pictures. You will need to post them, and give me the post #
https://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=164314 This as well can be archived with the original 101. It seems to have the pics and diagrams.

Due to the lower pressure, siphons and gravity drains off the side of the tank can take less flow than standpipes for the same diameter. The question is how much less?

The more I look at it, the more origional writing there is to do. Much of the discussion on this thread has been very specific to the one tank and the one plan.

Are you guys saying you just don't want me to repost pictures to the orginal [this] thread?? I can do that and make it a lot easier than rewriting....

Lot of the pictures, I do have, stock stuff that I use over and over..
But quite a few that were "tank specific" were drawn , redrawn and edited as the discussion took place so the "earilier" versions no longer exist...

Post the picture here and give me the #post which is listed on the right top of each post.

Well, we can do the best we can do. I see a lot of diagrams listed in the 2nd plumbing thread. I intend to archive both threads.

Somehow I missed this before! Excellent. THANKS!!

I'm creating a thread in the archieves and will link the 2 101 threads as well as Denise's info thread. That way the threads can continue active here and all the info will be preserved in Archieves. If there have been any other great plumbing threads, let me know, and I'll include them.
Cleaning up in here as well.
Thank you all for this great info and the added work.
