Squidd.......Teach me.....DYI:Plumbing 101 on a SW Tank

I'm still only an apprentice teacher. I'd have to do some reasearch to get an actual flow number out of the line size/elbow count. I know I've seen charts somewhere, just have to remember where...

Natural Wave Multi-Cycle Pump timer?
or the Power center w/day-night timer?
Leona

I don't like timers on pumps in general, unless they are "soft start" units (easier on pump motor) which the "Natural Wave" is not...
P.S. I have one N.I.B. I'll sell $20..
The Coralife timer for lighting on the other hand looks like a good deal, although I like the Grasslin units better....

You want to work on the layout for the Closed Loop on the tank or the sump/fuge layout next..?

also, I talked to Tom from Glasscages and the lighting is not including installation. So I told him to wait with that. I'm still waiting on the pricing for the breeder tank.

That's the wave maker...(or "power head" timer...)
The "other one" is a light timer...

this thread is an informative machine, I am also like Leona in that I have a 55 and am creating a 30 fuge. I want to use a HOB overflow and quiet one pump either a Quiet One Pump (3000) 780GPH or a CD-14145 Quiet One Pump (4000) 1017GPH which would be better? Could I upgrade these to a larger tank squid like a 90? Also I am a broke college student so I feel the need to do it right and well but cheaply. I would love the Euro Reef but have to settle for seaclone.

The Quiet One 4000 will give you right at 600 gph through 1" line - 5' head...or 500 gph with 3/4 line..perfect for a 600-700 gph overflow...
A little small for "upgrade" purposes to a 90....
I think we went through this with Leona back on page one..:D

Would this benifit my tank? If so how?

Not particularly...unless you wanted to run a bunch of powerheads in the tank on "alternating switching"...to get random flow...
You brought up the original question

Why were you asking...??

I just put that in there cause I like people to know that "most everything" I comment on I have run at one time or another...

Saw it in a book of mine. I was mainly looking for something to turn the lights on and off and to make more of a early morning before the lights just go on. Like we do now. I thought that is what the timers do.

Thanks Squid, I am still looking for a good overflow and pump, my friends are saying mag!

No problem...now have your "friends" tell you which of the Mags is best suited to running under pressure... :D

The "other" timer, the Coralife Power Center, "is" a lighting timer and works on a "longer" cycle (8-10-12 hrs) turning lights on and off for a Dawn, Daylight, Dusk effect....
The Wave Maker is a "short cycle" timer (20 seconds to 3 minutes at a time, over and over) for alternating powerhead flow...
