favia is what i was thinking. when it was real small part of me thought it was a brain coral but i had never seen one so little. i think favia is a good guess. i will most likely take it to my next reef club meet b/c it doesnt do much for me

thanks! that "before" shot was actually an "in between shot". it was the temporary aquascape while i was waiting for rocks to cure. i am so glad to have all the nuisance softies out of the tank. i think its time to get some frags! tomorrow i'm going to start the electrical shelving.

all that needs to be done is paint and some hinges put on and the shelving will be all done. will post pics later today.

Before:

After:

Front door open, revealing switches:

And the top lifts up for easy access to plugs and lighting timer:

my MH ballasts are hung on the back of the shelf and my backup battery for the VorTechs is on the leg near the floor to help lower the center of gravity.

i may have to get a different container for my ATO b/c with the backup battery where it is, i cant put the 33 gallon trash can all the way back.

Yeah, getting something smaller would look better - and maybe you can add a door to the cabinet to hide it as well. It wouldn't be that bad to have to top off your RO resevoir more often, would it?

thanks. the trash can isnt what bothered me. 33 gallons of water sitting above my electrical DID bother me. (i fell asleep once while filling it up and it overflowed on all the electrical connections) also, it was ugly and had some wasted space. this is more "finished" looking and makes it easier to get to all the connections via the open-able top.

no, since i use a kati/ani i dont have to worry about running water all day. i guess i could add a door to the very front, but it doesnt bother me that bad. i just wanted something that looked a little better than that old job, and now i have room to put my calcium reactor in my cabinet.

ok.
So, did looking at my stand build thread inspire you to do some finish work yourself?
i'm going to use your stand skeleton design for my 30B. I want to try and incorporate a small 8" ledge around the bottom of the tank and tile it in- somewhere to set a beer. i want to design this 30B with my upgrade in mind, to try some things out that i havent done yet like a coast to coast overflow.

What frags you have in mind?
I'm still putting together a SPS stock list for my 20g nano.
I know this is your thread and all... but I got a question... Do you think it would be better to go with an Octopus nwb110 or a 150 for a 20g SPS reef (and future 75g) I know it would be running as a ULNS. But, what is your opinion? Maybe an ASM Mini g? I'm so lost when it comes to skimmers. LOL!

I posted in your thread about ze skimmer.
i dont really know about the frags. i'd like a pink birdsnest to add some pop to the tank- i have a lot of greens, purples, and blues. any suggestions?

A nice purple capricornis or purple montipora digitata would stand out pretty well. So would a superman monti or a strawberry shortcake encrusting monti. (lol, that's as far as monti's go) I really like blue Oregon Torts and tri-color acros as well. There's some pretty cool tabling acros in a variety of colors that you can look at. It's fun to watch a frag of a tabling acro form/shape up.

Yep, looks a lot better... and now you don't need to kneel down every time you want to access all of the timers, plugs, etc.

I have a purple monti cap in there but it's been moved around so much since i got it. hopefully now that i've gotten it placed somewhere long term it will start growing a little better. I definitely like the encrusting monti's and the tri color acro's you suggested. my next order of business will be to get this calcium reactor fixed and hooked up to a pH controller and to order new bulbs. this will all have to wait until after the holidays, though (so next week
)
i'm hoping to hear from a guy in my reef club today who owns a small SW shop to see if i can swing by with the reactor on friday to see if there is anything he can do.
