going to order the replacement part for my reactor tomorrow (actually going to order 2 just in case), and also start putting some orders in for frags on fragswapper for the swap at the end of january-that way i can order frags here-and-there when i have some spare change and then freestyle it when it comes time for the swap. as soon as the part comes in for the reactor, janice (my fiance) is going to order a pH controller for me as a belated x-mas gift. she also wants to pre-order a few frags for me as a belated b-day gift.
the owner of one of the lfs's that i checked out the other day is a member of my reef club. he told me that calfo told him to get rid of a toadstool he had in his mixed reef, that it would make a huge difference in the growth of his sps. so he did this; took out the toadstool and took it to his store about a month ago, and he said that undoubtedly his sps have taken off like never before. so with that said, i reckon i'm going to take out my toadstool and most likely all my softies except the blue ridge coral and devils finger to see how it affects the growth of my sps.

so one of my gifts to janice (and myself) for christmas was to upgrade our old iPhones to the new 4GS. frankly i was fine with the older one, but whatever. the camera on the new one is killer compared to the one on my old iPhone. i still really need to get a nice SLR because my interest in photography is growing, but i am pleased with the capabilities of this camera considering it's a cell phone camera.
check it out, a few pictures i snapped minutes ago...

these next two are blurry b/c i didnt wipe the smears on the outside glass, but you can see the colt coral on the snail shell a little better, and also the yellow and red zoas that wouldn't show up well with my old phone.

here's one of my skimmer, just trying out the flash

definitely not too shabby considering they're camera phone pics, eh? later on i'll see how pictures under MH turn out and once i'm done with my daily objectives i'll grab a fts and play around with my photo box.
today's tank goals are to get a pre-paid visa card and order the replacement part for the calcium reactor. i'm also going to take the toadstool leather to a friends house since i have to re-do his tank today anyways. i'll grab some pics while i'm at it- he has a tesselatta eel, a panther grouper, and a miniatus grouper in a soft coral reef. the eel wreaks havoc and his rockwork has been demolished several times over. he's one of those dudes that wants you to think that he's very knowledgeable about the hobby but in fact is just a bunch of hot air, so anytime something goes awry in his tank my buddy Klaus and I have to fix it for him b/c he's clueless.

I really wonder why soft corals would affect the growth of SPS in the same tank?!
And the camera on your phone is definitely killer! The pics are great!!!

okay...sorry for asking
You weren't really asking, though. You just told me you would take one if I still had them and asked how you could get it. I'm sorry if my response wasn't what you wanted to hear, and I apologize if you found it to be rude. Personally, I would consider myself to be rude if I told someone that I never spoke to that I would take something off their hands that wasn't offered. It would be different if you at least had something constructive to add to the conversation we are already having in this thread and if you wanted a frag you could have asked, "If you still have those monti frags and are still trying to get rid of them, I would be really interested."
Now, if you are still interested in some frags, let me know via PM and I'm sure we can figure something out.

On a side note, I tried to get in touch with Pacific Coast Imports, both the main number and the "personal" number that was given to me last week, both to no avail. I will try again tomorrow and if I still can't get any kind of response and service, I will be calling the BBB. I wouldn't care so much but I'm on my last nerve between the extreme coincidence of what previously happened when I tried to order this part and the fact that I was assured that if the main number wasn't answered I could get through on this other number and that this whole thing would be taken care of. It's a shame, too, because I have some contacts that have their equipment and are really happy with the reactors so I was hoping to use their products on three of my service accounts because of what I've heard and since the price is right.
Either way, in the wake of my angst I took some more pics of the same things I've been taking pictures of....enjoy

BTW, if anyone can help me out on identifying the SPS I already have, that would be great. I know acro, monti cap, digi, etc., but not all the designer names. I came across the name of the green milli I have, but have since forgotten. I would like to figure them out before I go to this swap and add a bunch more. More pics to come.

I think this first one here is a tri-color acro.

Pocillopora damicornis?

Blue Staghorn Acro?

Should have cropped this picture and taken it under actinics. You can see the a purple monti cap at the top center of the picture. The clam has a lot more blue in it than the picture shows.

That sucks! Well, it will all work out. I didn't know you serviced aquariums! Me too! :D
As far as the names go...
I just know what you know... mili, pocili, digi, monti, etc. You would know if you had any Tyree corals though. I bet. lol

These next few are frags that I salvaged from my rock work and sand bed when I redid the aquascape. They still sit on my sand bed and generally annoy me. I will place a few in the rocks and the rest will have to find new homes asap...
Red Monti Digi

Some kind of purple Acro. I have some of this encrusting on a rock in my tank so this frag won't be around for long I don't think.

Frag of green milli that I found way
under the rockwork, on the other side of the tank from the mother colony

Green Digi

This pic was supposed to be on the cluster of digi frags in the background. After I collected all the loose frags from around the tank (there was a good bit as you can see) I separated them and I accidentally mixed the green and purple/brown monti digis and epoxied them onto the rock in the background there. It should make for a cool colony once it grows in a bit. I will try to get a better pic of it tomorrow, the lights are out for the night right now.

In that last pic you can really see the different colors of that acro that make me think that it's a tri-color. I'm so happy that the new phone has a half decent camera on it b/c it was so hard trying to share my enthusiasm over corals when the pictures of them really did no justice. With my old phone, the acro I'm speaking of wouldn't even show up in pictures; it would just blend in with the rocks. It still does a bit, but at least you can make parts of it out. Being able to share pictures like this really makes me want to go out and get a DSLR or a decent digital camera.
