i think this is my new favorite

Reef, Like I have said earlier in this thread, sometimes it is all you can do is to make it to the next minute. Hopefully you make it that far and then go to the next minute. You have thrown them all away hopefully, and also do not take much money with you when you go out. Lessens the temptation to "just have one more, it will be my last, I promise..."

Smoked for 10 years, 1 pack a day. I quit cold turkey easy as pie. I will tell you how I did it, and so far its not like you guys have.
Two weeks prior to my quit date, I started telling everyone i know that I was quitng smoking in two weeks on Monday. I mean everyone, even people I didn't know. I then told my self everyday that Monday was my quit date.
I smoked normal up until Sunday night, then I threw my smokes away, I had two packs. Monday I woke up and told my self I was done. it was hard for the first two months but then it got easier.
It has been 1 year smoke free, and I still get a craving every once in a while. The key is to remember that if you smoke just one ciggerette, its over. You'll be back smoking more than you were before in a week. And this is true for the rest of your life. You will always be adicted to ciggerettes, which sucks.
The key to quiting is, "you have to want to quit" if you don't want to, don't even try because you'll try and fail which will discourage you from trying to quit when you really do want to.

another thing that helped me
when i would crave a smoke I would take 20 deep breathes. Breath in as deep as you can the blow air out slowly.
Remember a craving lasts aout 10 minutes, if you can make it thre that 10 minutes your golden.
You will have lots of these cravings at first, but they will slowly get less frequint.

Jenn, that is funny(and true) but the visual I had of you rolling up the cat..... and Tobin standing right behind you yelling "hurry up!" Well that is too much.
Reef, How are you doing? You know today is Father's day and you are not only quitting for you, you are quitting for your kids sake also.

I got in pretty late on this thread.
You'll quit when YOU are ready to quit.
Medications only work if you decide to take them.
I was tired of having a drug in control of my mind and body. When I admitted to myself that I was a slave and dependent on this drug, I tossed my smokes. Never picked one up again.
Now, that's not to say I don't have cravings. I see all my patients in the ER that are oxygen dependent and wheelchair bound, in their 40's & 50's, that can't get off of their wheelchair and into their stretcher without sweating and turning beet red, and all my cravings go away.
On another note, If I see another fat, obese, wheelchair driving, cigarette smoking while oxygen wearing, handicap license plate having person, I'm gonna puke!!! Get up off your fat butt, and out of your wheelchair and walk around the mall. If you choose to smoke, do it WITHOUT wearing your oxygen you dumb schmuck! I've treated to many facial burns from people like yourself!
That's enough of my soapbox.
Sorry.

I remember when I quit dipping, I had dreams that I was a pelican flying over a field of cope and I would dive down and fill my beak with a basketball size dip. Those dreams sucked.
