IDK about the light thing....I think you were right on actually Meowzer. I have a T5 with only 24x2 and I have a bubbletip that is doing great and you would have twice as much light as me so.......I think you are fine. With the powerheads I would go with a koralia 1 and 2.

Well right now I have a Penguin 550 flow is 145gph....they had one at the p e t c o
I haven't ordered the Koralia yet cause ...well all I had was sand and water...tomorrow there will be rock sand and water..LOL...I will order the new Koralia probably next week...I don't think I need to do a lot of flow during a cycle...do I?

nah you don't but it does give you an idea of how to place them in the tank...

To me, flow is important in a new tank as it will help to get any detritus from die-off on the rock into the water column for removal by the mechanical filter.

OK...so I should order the Koralia today then?
AND In your opinion...since I have this Penguin 550 that moves 145GPH...
AND THESE.....move
The Koralia 1=400gph
Koralia 2=600 gph
A. Should I use the Penguin and a Koralia 2
B. The Penguin and a Koralia 1
C. Ditch the Penguin and use Koralia 1 and a Koralia 2
LOL.....OK...I will be "clicking" in an order today.....
CAN you think of anything else????

Is the pengiun going to be your only mechanical filter?
I believe that more flow is always good. Can't comment on what you should put into the tank as I don't know how the rock will be placed and where the flow will be needed. However those three together.....145 + 400 + 600 = 1145 / 29 gallons = about 39 times flow in the tank. This is a good amount.

The Penguin is not the filter..it is a Powerhead...(145gph)
The filter is an aquatech 60...which moves 400GPH
Then of course I will have the CPR BAK PAK Protein skimmer which offers filtration...(if I use that part)
That is why I was wondering if I should keep the Penguin PH which is only rated to move 145gph...OR just keep it as a spare, and Buy a K1 and a K2

When I get to this kind of decision:
The flow from the Penguin is more directional where the Korallia is more disperced so I vote Korallias.
Heat if an issue to you is another thing to look at. The Korallia pull 4.5 watts each, can't find any specs on the Penguin. Do you know how many watts they use?

NOPE...I tried to find it everywhere...even Marineland, but all it says is that is uses a std 115 outlet and is rated for 145gph

I guess I'll order the K1...and the K2...if the K2 ends up being too much, I'll switch it with a K1 I have in the 225G.
K1=3.5watts K2=4.5 watts

OK....Lights and skimmer will be here Friday (according to tracking)

ANYTHING ELSE I need????

Nah.....I would imagine just get your test kits ready to see if there is a cycle. and then as you get ready to add corals and fish, start dosing for calcium, iodine, etc. or anything else you are low on.
I think that you will be very happy with the 1 and 2. I definitely wish I had gotten two 1's at least or a 1 and 2. You will be able to keep anything flow-wise that you need. I am more relegated to softies and LPS with mine, although with my lighting that fits anyway.

OK...I looked at it this morning, and it seemed the same as it was last night...maybe a little sand on the bottom of tote, but I don't think that is what you mean...is it? It's not smelly (bad smelly) either...which is a good thing too....
The temp was 79/80.....
After the rock goes in the tank tonight...How soon before I start testing? (I just read this whole thread thinking I had asked that before and I can't find it)

If you put the rock in tonight I would test tomorrow night and see what you get. The "sand" in the bottom is what you want to get off the rock swishing it around. Some of this may indeed be sand and some is for sure detritus.
Another thing that would be cool to know, if you could test the tote water tonight for ammonia and nitrite. Inquisitive minds need to know.

OK...SPANKO...after almost 24 hours of rock being in tote with heater and bubbler
TESTS ARE IN: Nitrites and nitrates are ZERO
AMMONIA .....4
Sure glad I'm throwing that water out
Oh yeah...water is clear....no cloudiness at all...no debris floating around..just sand on the bottom
