what would be a good firefish tankmate

I agree ATO is important on smaller tanks to maintain a stable salinity.

This was the ATO for my 10 gallon.

Depends on tank size. But cardinals, chromis, clowns, gobys, blennys, ect can go w fire fish

Neon Goby would have a far better chance of success over the other fish you mentioned.

The chromis and cardinals are schooling fish and its reccomended that they are kept in groups with some exceptions.

I wouldn't try to school a Bengaii Cardinal... unless you had a big enough tank and the right sort of male/female mix.

Bang, I forgot it was a 10G... neither a Cardinal nor Chromis would make a good fit there.
