I posted in the ID section but adding to my journal as well. There is a small colony of aiptasia on a rock, about 8 heads or so. I'm pretty sure its young aiptasia I just wanted to know what you guys think it is? This stuff is really small still and the peppermint shrimp I have isnt touching it. So how would i get rid of it when its this small? It's only on this one small rock. thanks for the help.

I got tons of them in my tank. They are harmless hydroids. Mine are green tho, they look pretty sweet under moonlights.

I googled Colonial Hydroids and they came up bad on many sites including reefkeeping dot com. They can sting corals. Thats why I got rid of them because they can get out of control. I wish they were harmless but once I got an ID on them and researched they came up bad.
thanks for the responses guys!
from reefkeeping..
"Aquarists must also watch out for the red Acropora copepods, ciliates, flatworms, hydroids, or even parasitic snails on various SPS corals. Powerful stinging hydroids, while not as prolific as Aiptasia, can still be problematic in a reef tank"

HAHA Nissan, I was in Hawaii for the last 8 days and just got back last night. I had a blast, I'll have to share my snorkeling pics with you guys once I get them developed!
I'll have new tank pics tomorrow with my new additions.

still nada, the firefish are being camera shy right now. Hopefully today if they decide to come out.

They finally decided to come out and eat today. They are definitely buddies, rarely leaving each other's side.

So I just spent the last hour reading your entire journal Whisk and let me tell you, IT ROCKS!
I just started my own with a 29g biocube, hope it all goes well. Once my cycle is finished and all that, the first thing I'm getting are some of them Firefish, they're amazing(after my CUC of course
)
But congrats on your tank, it really looks awesome.
