    Biofilter and Carbon causing problem???

BurnNSpy: I use carbon form time to time because it does help remove everything from the water. When I stair down the barrel of my six foot tank I can notice a marked difference. Crystal clear after the application. In fact, when I use carbon my protein skimmer doesn't pick up a thing. However...

    Open Brain Coral

I had my water checked yesterday and it was fine. The only other thing that I can do, as BurNSpy suggested, is to move the coral to the bottom far side of the tank in hopes that the reduced light will help. Is leaving my lights on for 9 hours to much for the coral? Maybe I should reduce it to 8...

    Open Brain Coral

Alianted: you don't have to worry about the open brain or the bubble stinging your fish. Your fish are generally aware of what they can and cannot touch, but if they do touch them, it will not kill them, it will just give them a wake up call. If fact, what you have to worry about more is the...

    Open Brain Coral

I think that the readings in the new tank are the same(I hate those color strips, half the time I can never tell). The only thing that is different is my alk. or KH is slightly higher, KH 10 instead of 8. The nitrates are 0-10 and the calcium checks out. As for the iodine, this is something new...

    Open Brain Coral

My open brain coral no longer swells up with water in its new home. I moved it from my old tank that had VHO day and actinic lights to its new home that has 400w 12k MH lights with S.O. actinic. After the move it receded and will not swell up again. It has been over a month now. Has this...

    ACtinic!? DAy!?!? Help!?!

If you have a reef tank I would leave the lights on for at least ten hours. If it is possible to only leave the actinic on I would set them up on a different timer and have them come on one hour before and after the day lights. This will give your fish time to ajust(and maybe have an romantic...

    Caulerpa, which kind is best?

So, with all the verities of Macro Allege out there is one better then the other when it comes to filtration ie.removing nitrates? Are the thicker caulerpas just as good as the thin fan caulerpas? Have any studies been done on what caulerpa gives back the best return on filtration(nitrate...

Is RO enough or do i need RO/DI

Your water quality can never be too good and I would go with the RO/DI filter. The price increase is minimal.

    Help, too many micro bubbles.

Thanks to the good advice the problem is now under control. No more micro bubbles. I replummbed my pump with hard PVC and doubbled up on the Teflon tape. Somehow the pump was sucking air without leaking water. Thanks!

    Acropora Bleaching

Donna, I think that BurnNSpy is right about not having enough light. I also have 12K MH lighting except I use 400w bulbs. I have the coral 3/4 high in the tank directly under the light. If I could speculate, I would say that your coral shouldn't be brown, it should be green under the right...

    Acropora Bleaching

I had the same problem once. My Acopora started to bleach from the bottom up. The way that I fixed the problem was I simply moved it to another location. If the bottom to the coal doesn't get enough light it will set off a chain reaction and you may end up loosing the entire coral. Try to set it...

    Help, too many micro bubbles.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I don't add any chems that could be increasing the bubbles so I think that I will have to try replumming like jimi advised. I'm not sure what a poly filter is but I run a little giant pump. Maybe that is the culprit, I will keep you posted.

    Help, too many micro bubbles.

I need help. I have too many micro bubbles in my tank. I thought that over time they would dissipate like in times past but it doesn't seem to be the case. The tank has been set up for five months now and still heave bubbleage. I have an overflow and a protien skimmer that add air to the water...

How long does the sun stay up?

Hi all, I just wanted to get opinions, how long do reefers leave their lights on. I have an 180 gal. 6X2 tank that has been running for five mounths now. It has two 400w MH 12000k bulbs. Needless to say I am now a P.G.&E. prefered costermer. I have my lights on a timer set for nine hours a day...
