    Questoins About Lighting???

Yes, fan cooled. It is 72X24X14, everything fits. You just get creative with the light placement. It is easier then you think most of these are very compact. No pictures, sorry I don't have a digital camera that works right now. Moby

    How many "k"?

No problem! The 15K Mh is what I use with the 50 50 actinic. this seems to give the "whitest" light without too much blue or too much yellow. But this is personal preference. The higher the K the bluer the light is at depth. Remember as the water gets deeper the red is "filtered" out first...

    Questoins About Lighting???

so should i buy both a actinics and MH and leave then on at the same time or what??? You could buy both, lots of folks do, myself included. I have the actinics and Mh on a timer that turns the actinics on first to simulate morning (eases the fish into the light) and then at night turns the MH...

    How many "k"?

Personally I would mix the bluer PC with the whiter MH to avoid getting that yellowish tint you sometimes see. JMO. Moby

is it ok to leave bio balls in sump if you have reef tank ?

Rinse them in the water you just removed when you do a water change. As ophiura said, it is the gunk that gets trapped in them that causes the problems, not necessarily the balls themselves that are the culprit. If you rinse them in fresh RO water you will kill the beneficial bacteria growing on...

    Questoins About Lighting???

the actinics come with 2 bulbs one white and one blue right so... would i just buy a MH bulb??? and put it in where the white bulb goes? Anthony, the MH bulbs come with their own fixtures and ballast. These are not the same sort of lights as florescent tubes and cannot be "plugged" into your...

    Anyone have a spreadsheet checklist?

So does that excel sheet work okay? You can always add or change it to suit you. For instance you might want to add phosphate to the spreadsheet. I don't regularly test for it since I have RO and only test if algea starts rearing its ugly head. The set up is simple and on each worksheet page I...

Anyone know how to do this?!?! I'm ashamed that I pride myself on being pretty tech savvy, but I'm at a lose on how to get a screen shot on this forum of my excel spreadsheet. Moby

    Anyone have a spreadsheet checklist?

I use an excel spreadsheet. Its the simplest way too go! I have columns for all the measurements and have it set up to auto- tally those columns to create bar charts so I can see trends over time at a glance. Make sure to include a column for notes for easy reference. Works great! Moby

    LR curing experiment

Neat experiment. I too use a kiddy pool to cure live rock, it seems to work very well and cuts the time by an average of a week. Although this is a relative term based on the type and how well it was precured (washed). Most of the stuff is filthy and scrubbing is certainly necessary! This cuts...

Live rock and starting a tank

Welcome to the forum and this extremely fun hobby! If the tank is 29 gallons ideally you would want to add about 30 to 35 lbs of live rock. Since you are new I would not try uncured your first time around. Cured is much easier for a less experienced fish keeper. No fish until the nitrate cycle...

woohoo! live rock is on it's way!

Just make sure you scrub the live rock thoroughly to remove any large critters that will die off anyway. If it is soft and squishy it should be removed otherwise the amount of die off will be too much and you'll get an extremely large amount of ammonia and once the cycle is over this will result...

Do you use a sand or a "reef sand"?

Do you have any problems with the sand (sugar sized)? I use the sugar sized and really no problems. Most burrowing fish and inverts seem to do much better with the smaller grained sand, some even require it to thrive. Also, the sugar sand facilitates the bacteria needed to process nitrates in...
