Not familiar with the brand, but yes. You should thoroughly wash any sand before putting it in your tank. Also be very careful some sands are high in silicates and will cause endless algea problems. Also most playsands offer no PH buffering. Moby

For FOWLR you really wouldn't need the MH. As for the actinics, if it is a 2 bulb fixture, go with one 20K and one 6500K or 10k and 6500K. Just a suggestion, really the amount of blue is then just a preference. Moby
