    Catching a Murdering Damsel

I had a hard time getting my damsels out, I used a piece of hard plastic and trapped them on one side and moved the LR piece by piece until they had no where to hide, one actually was in the LR and I laid it on a towel until he fell out. Good luck, they are tough little suckers.

    substrate???

I started with marine substrate, gray coast. Ordered it online, bought an addative of bacteria and LR. The sand isn't quite sugar sand size, but it is working well and adds a nice contrast. The bacteria addative claims to help start the nitro cycle and my tank has been up and running for some...

    is it just me???

I doubt that this will even get read, but those who are afraid to say something or are complaining, relax. It's the computer, you don't have to face anyone or get into it because it's the internet and the world is full of text messaging and chat rooms, we have become a bunch of spine-less...

Not sure I have enough light

I have a 55g with one flourescent strip 48in, nothing special, came with the hood, but I am interested in what type of lighting you have, actine, metal halide, etc. ? I want to upgrade eventually and want to do it right. There are tons of threads on here about lighting I'm sure, but the more...

    Help with my 55g please

If you have a good canister filter, would that serve as a skimmer? what's the difference, I was told by a friend that I don't really need a skimmer, atleast not yet, and now I'm reading that one may not need a filter if you have a skimmer. Threed240, I also have a 55g and I don't have half the...

EXPERIENCE CORAL BEAUTY & FLAME ANGEL

Pontius, do you get fish from SeaCritters/Bruce? I discovered him just in time, before I started stocking my fish/inverts. Is there anywhere else worth visiting? I have been to Coastline Petsupply, I get small things from there. As for the angels question, if you get another, move stuff...

    Coralline algae ??

I had a problem with die-off. After I went through all the trouble of finding LR with purple on it, 50% has turned white, I'm hoping it comes back. It makes my tank look more "official", and I paid top dollar for it too. I would guess that the change in lighting may have caused it, but I...

    55 gallon fish list

I have also heard that the hippo tang will outgrow the tank size. I have a 55 and wanted one but was convinced otherwise. And I hear they can get ick and need a lot of swimming room. I was gonna try it anyway, but decided to get two blue chromis which are hardier, smaller, and serve the same...

    Invertabrae- is this enough?

I have a peppermint, cleaner, emerald, and sally light foot. All seem to get along. My blue leg hermit is fine too. I would start with less and follow the recommendations above.

    Newbie Question ??

I would get rid of the damsels after you are sure it has cycled. Good luck, go slow, read up.

    Beginner Fish

Test your water, bring it to the LFS also. Double check to make sure your tank is done cycling. I would start with clowns, they are tough, I had four damsels and they were tough to catch, if everything is ok, and you want clowns to stay for good, then they would be the first to go in. I have...

    Stocklist

Tangs need lots of algae for grazing and so do LMB, I have heard these two are tough to keep and may require some sheets of algae. The others look good. You have a lot of room, compared to my 55, I would get a puffer or a lion, once things are established. Forget the tangs for a while. Good...

So...after 4 days this is what I have...

Sand sifting star needs something to eat, as well as the rest of your crew. If you don't see anything growing yet, you might want to hold off. Oops, you already adding all that stuff. Well go get some algae sheets and maybe they will have something to eat. You don't want things dying or that...

    fish keep dying

If you want to kill the beta just pour bleach in the vase. Those suckers can live forever, but my girlfriend's only lasted a year, I had one for several years. I would agree that your bioload may be high. Sounds like a lot of inverts and maybe at night they attack your fish. If there are no...

    Orange linka starfish?

Stars are hard to keep, you should have a well-established tank, so I've heard. Hope you didn't pay a lot, it might be dead soon, don't let it mess up your whole tank if it appears to be dying or dead. Set up a quarantine tank, or take it back, if your LFS allows. Good luck.

Bangaii Cardinal: only fish that survives!

I wouldn't give up so easily, just use cheap fish first this time. There has got to be something that's killing them. Try fish from a different store. keep your head up.

    New Tank stock list

You could have one of the smaller tangs, but others will tell you, you need a larger tank, I would go for it. You don't have too many other fish, you'll be alright for a while.
