    Changing carbon and feeding questions?

mgh, I set it up so I can get emails from this site. I never really check my hotmail. So the 90g is almost ready? Do you have a RO unit or are you just gonna go with South Jersey tap? How is the LR seeding project going, that stuff can get pricy? So besides transferring some corals what do...

    new fish

You should read-up and look at all the different possiblities. Put a pair of clowns in there in the meantime. They are hardy and get along with most everything. I have a firefish, my tank is peaceful, the blue damsel might not be as aggressive at first, but I wouldn't risk it, pull them out...

My sally lightfoot crab needs help

Don't trust your LFS guy, sounds like he's making excuses. Was your crab larger than three inches across? I have seen them larger than that in my LFS. Your SG was high and something prolly lead to his demise, your LFS guy is making excuses or selling you geriatric crabs.

As much as I like to hear about her downward spiral, I think you should post this somewhere else.

    Changing carbon and feeding questions?

I will upgrade my food next time I am at LFS, prolly wait till the other is running low, changing charcoal any day now. MGH, I saw some pics of your reef, although the one you sent by phone didn't go thru. I searched your name, it took like 5min, had to go thru 70 some pages, but got a look at...

    Changing carbon and feeding questions?

Thanks. Any recommendations on food that contains all these things? Vitamins, zoe, etc. This is all new to me. Why doesn't the food contain these things already? I know this is a business but my fish are starting to eat better than me. They are all bright and vibrant, swimming strong...

    HI Newby here

Slow down, breathe, first off, you can cycle with a raw shrimp to add the bacteria you need. Damsels will be hard to catch and eventually you will want to get rid of them, but they are good beginner fish. You have three categories of fish, friendly, aggressive, and reef safe. Reef safe will...

    Changing carbon and feeding questions?

I use bottled water to thaw the brine, I don't add any water that isn't pure. I give my cats brita water, I am a bit OCD when it comes to stuff like that. Thanks for the advice, I doubt my hermit can swim up to the veggie clip to get the algae sheet, I know my emerald crab can't get there. I...

    Mr. Green's Saltwater Plunge

The bigger the better with the size of the tank. I'm a novice on lighting, but I would tell you to order your equipment online and get your fish from a trusted LFS. If you order enough the shipping charge is a fair price and you pay a mark up at the LFS for non-living stuff, try this site or I...

My sally lightfoot crab needs help

SG could be higher, especially for inverts from what I've read, pH ideal should be up a bit too. I have a Sally and haven't seen it molt, I'm guessing it hides in the LR when it's ready to do this, but it did regenerate a claw and a leg and I never saw it happen.

Do I have to kill Manjano/Aiptasia?

I would leave it too. I had a bit of an aiptasia problem myself, but I have FOWLR and a small peppermint shrimp did the trick. Those don't look like the same thing, just search aiptasia. My beef was that the LFS guy sold me the LR with the aiptasia and told me they were tubeworms. That's how...

    Changing carbon and feeding questions?

I was advised to change the carbon in my canister filter once a month. I think it is definately time, but my tank has been great so far, is once a month too often? What does the carbon filter out exactly? Is there something I can add to work as a skimmer because I have room in my filter for...

    Ques abt tank size

Start cycling your tank, find a good substrate, add salt obviously, start your heater, filter, etc. add LR asap, you can get large pieces but you pay by weight so look for porous pieces that feel light. Look for growth on them, especially purple corline algae. Don't pay more than seven a...

    New 65 Gallon Set-Up?

I have a 55g and a canister filter. You can spend a lot of money or enough to have a decent set up. I went cheap but practical, a 65g is still kinda small. If you are a beginner, you might want to learn with fish only and some inverts. You will discover there is a lot of stuff you don't...

    Why The Sally Lightfoots?

It's kinda small, and I see his claws working quickly, but I can't see what it's eating. I break up the krill in my fingers when I feed so some stuff gets to the shrimp and crabs, I guess he's doing ok, if he's regenerated limbs and not racing around for food when I feed. Sorry to hear about...

    Is it me?

clowns are good. My klein's butterfly has opened up. Yellow watchman goby hides a lot, but comes out to eat. cleaner shrimp has a lot of personality. Follow advice about watching them from away from the tank or when there is nobody around. If four little screaming kids are in the store or...

    Why The Sally Lightfoots?

I've had one for less than a month and he/she regenerated a claw and leg and seems to be doing great. Hides a lot, but now I'm nervous it won't survive. I don't have a ton of algae and I don't see it eat anything else, any tips?
