i've got the CS12-2 on my 180g reef. kc

the only difference with the mag 7 over the mag 3 is i had to pick the collection cup up about 3/4". the amount of skimmate and the color of it remained the same. owning a Euro-Reef skimmer as well i am not impressed with the preformance of the Aqua-C at all and really wish i had got another ER. kc

they may very well all be the same size Now but when I got the new one from them last Aug with the two side by side the new one was considerably thicker then the old. the one they sent me (the thick one) is about 1/4" diameter, the old one was about 1/8" all new remora's and urchin's may come...

it's conciderably larger and seals the collection cup area better which allows less 'hiss' out. kc

yes put the top back on or you'll loose a lot of the phyto as you have noticed. you can watch the phyto in the bottle as the clam feeds, it causes currents to flow and it's pretty neat to watch. kc

i've used some of their reef grade substrate (a course grade of sand) its as good as CaribSea. their sand should be no different. hth kc

as far as filtration it will do the same in an area void of light that it will in the tank. it just doesnt grow coralline or other phosynthetic things on it. hth kc

if your concern is the hissing sound this can be cut conciderably with an upgraded O-ring for the collection cup. you can get it from emailing Jason at Aqua-C, and they are free. hth kc
