    10k or 20k MH

it's a give/take kind of thing. with 6500K bulbs you get the most par but you get the worst color for a tank IMO. with 20KK's you get far less par but much better eye appeal (at least to me). 10KK's are a good compormise esp if you use heavy actinic's with them. kc

    Need advice on refuge setup.

you can do a few tricks to keep it a fuge and have high flow at the same time. you need to use baffles that make the water flow at the surface rather then throughout the fuge. to do this your baffle form the input zone needs to exit water at the top of the fuge (your skimmer needs to be in...

    10k or 20k MH

I guess it's just a matter of the reefers own opinion and eye appeal. myself I like the more deep water blue look of the 20kk's. when I ran 4x65pc over my 29 they were 3 actinic to 1 daylight. the 29 now has a 250w 10kk MH with no actinic and it's defiantly more white then before. I don't...

    How much sand?

if it helps any Aragamax, Aragamax Select, and Aragamax Grand Bahama sand give you less depth for the same weight. other aragonite based sands will give you about 25% more volume for the same weight. kc

    Peppermints?

allot of places sell camel back shrimp Rhynchocinetes Durbanensis as pep's and they will eat polyps and will not eat aiptasia. Lysmata wurdemanni are the true Peppermint shrimp and eat aiptasia and do not harm other corals or pick at your feather dusters. the camel back come from the Pacific...

How many shrimp for a 29 gallon reef?

kc, have you been able to raise any of the fry to adults? to be honest I have never tried. they do all the courting with lights on but the actual spawn with egg/sperm release is about an hour after lights out and a moon light is the only way you can watch (makes it hell for taking a pic too)...

FWIW all my tangs are 'Fat' yellow included, you can't see ribs on any of them. IMO a tang that you can see ribs on is underfed or highly stressed. my yellow is 4 yrs old 6" long and over an inch thick. kc

    different clown trigger versions?

it's prolly just genetics. most fish (triggers included) tend to lighten up in color and get clear looking as they get real old not as they mature. at 2 yrs your trigger is not hardley old by any means. hth kc

    Need advice on refuge setup.

a fuge needs low water flow thourgh it. a hundred GPH for an 18g fuge would be about perfect. if your using it as a sump with a skimmer you need about 6x tank volume. hth kc

    Clark clown fish

it really depends on the size of your tank, but for the most part you wont have a problem out of the clarki's unless its other clown fish. different breads of clowns dont tend to get along well in small/mid sized systems. kc

    faging Xenia

there are lots of ways. you can place rubble on top of the colony and it will spread to it in a day or two then just pull it apart and the frag is attached already. you can also as suggested cut it with a razor, I prefer to use stainless steal scissors. if you cut it in the tank any tiny bit...

How do I know if my sand is cured?

a dry sand from a bag doesn't need to be cured. the only time you will need to cure sand is if you took live sand and let it dry out or die off. then you'd need to use testing of the curing containers water to see when the ANN spiked and dropped back down. if your just trying to get bacteria...
