Did i get enough of a cuc?

I have a 30 gallon that finished cycling a couple weeks ago. Now its growing a brown/orange colored stuff all over the top rock. (Diatreates? sp?) So i bought 1 peppermint shirmp and 5 blue legged hermit crabs. Is that going to be enough to take care of my problem?

How do you get rid of bubbles with a HOB filter?

Thanks a lot. I did a water change yesterday and filled it all the way up to the edge and the bubbles went away. Should i use the powerhead to move the water around the LR now? I was using it to push the bubbles from the filter back up to the surface, but now i don't have that problem.

    Where do betas come from?

Sorry it doesn't have to do with saltwater, but yesterday i was in my girlfriends room and she was staring at her beta. Then out of nowhere she asked me where it was from. I was completely stumped. There a freshwater fish, and don't like currents or large places so i could only think of lakes or...

    HOB filters?

Yeah doesn't the biowheel help the biological filter grow? As long as its spinning your in good shape, but if it stops, it can cuase problems. So im taking it as you are for me switching the filters. If im not mistaken, they use the same pads as my whisper, so i could swap those in. Will it mess...

    Where does the powerhead go?

I Just put a powerhead in my 30 gallon a couple days ago. I placed it in the back left hand corner and angled it toward the middle. It also does a good job of interupting the flow of the air bubbles from my HOB filter.

Where exactly is the biological filter?

I was under the impression that it builds up on your filter pads and on the live rock and sand, but i have read that you should still replace the HOB filters. Wouldn't that get rid of your Bio filter, Making the tank have to cycle again?

    emergency qt tank?

Do you still need to go through a cycle if you really need a qt tank right now? Like say i had a fish that was sick and i don't have a qt tank set up, would it be ok to make a qt tank but not wait for it to cycle before adding the sick fish?

    what happened

Was your tank ever used for freshwater fish? The Silicone could have absorbed something that could be deadly to your fish. Is it cycled all the way? Basically all that he said above.
