    What kind of water?

RO-Reverse Osmosis- is the water of choice for reef tanks!

    Fuge concerns

Ok, Is it safe to say that once I add the fuge, could I remove the cannister filter and let the live rock, protein skimmer and fuge do the work?

Hang on the back Aquafuge or under the tank stand sump/refugium?

If that's the problem with the HOB, then once it is hanging on tank, you can use two wood supports cut to the lenght between floor and bottom of HOB fuge to relieve the load.

    Fuge concerns

I want to get a fuge for my 37g and place it in cabinet below MT. I am concerned that should the return pump fail or because of power outtage, I will overlow the fuge if using an over flow box (drilling is not an option on the MT.) I understand the bigger the better in terms of water volume, but...

    Live Rock

Thanks for the reply. Actually, the LFS where purchased has many tanks with signs of dates when rock arrived and began curing. I vist this store 1-2 times a week just to see what's new and I am aware of what is there. I have been testing the water for a week now since the lr was added. All...

    Help with aquascaping

You can build a good base and lay the live rocks like a jigsaw puzzle where they will support themselves without leaning on the glass.

    Live Rock

I recently added 30lbs of Fiji LR into my already cycled 6 month old 37g tank. There have been no fish for about 4 weeks due to ick. The rock was cured when purchased. Will the addition of this rock mean another cycle? Or is it safe to add fish? Thanks

    Question on sump

I currently have a 37g FO tank with LS, HOB PS and Fluval 304 cannister filter. I am going to convert to a mini reef. I want to add a fuge below in the cabinet. From what I have been reading here on this subject, the addition of a sump can eliminate the need for the cannister filter. Rather than...

    Conversion question

Because of the canopy, I was thinking a compact fluorescent system. Any suggestions?

    Conversion question

Thanks I have about 2 inches of sand because it was FO. So I will have to add more to get the 3-4". So since I have to increase the bed depth, should it be LS? I assume you are saying the LR will be enough to "seed?" BTW the tank is a 37g.

    Conversion question

I would like to convert from a FO to a reef tank. I currently have a sand bed. I understand one of the things I need to do is add LS and LR. My question is can I add LS to the existing sand bed to "seed" it, or will adding the LR be enough to do the job? Thanks!

Another Fuge question for a newbie.

As much as the valuable and detailed information that is posted here which is way way better than most LFS can give, being a newbie to the reef, I am still a bit not up to speed on setting up a fuge. So I will describe what I have and I would greatly appreciate help with my setup. I have been...

    FO----------->mini reef

I have a 37g FO tank, sand bed, PS, and cannister filter and fluidized bed filter that I would like to convert to a mini reef. I would like to keep this tank on the simple side due to the size, clownfish or two, anemone and one or two other reef safe fish along with a few of the other reef...

    Acclimation and SG

Thanks for the reply, Rev. I understand about the acclimation, I was asking about going from one extreme to another. Why do the shops keep it that low? Is it better for the fish to acclimate to higher SG rather than a lower sg?

    Acclimation and SG

The LFS that I deal with is a serious store with fish being its main piece of the business. When I set up my SW tank, he recommended that I keep the SG at 1.018 for a FO setup. They keep their FO water at 1.018 like he said and I have checked it with a refractometer when I purchased a fish...

    Hyposalinity question

I have nothing left in the tank. Just dead coral and rock and the sand. Nothing live left. So with this said, is it still important to wait 4-6 weeks?

    Hyposalinity question

I have read here about hyposalinity. I have been running my tank (FO) without fish for about 9 days so far due to the infamous ick. My question is this: Is it sufficient enough to run the tank without life for 4-6 weeks, or would it be beneficial to also use the hyposalinity method? It seems I...
