Chaetomorpha aka spaghetti algae is the safest from what I've read. Doesn't attach to anything, doesn't go asexual, grows insanely fast. I use it in my fuge and love it. You really should dripp acclimate every fish you introduce. I even use my refractometer to make sure the water is the same SG as my display. Sometimes that takes longer than the prescribed 2 hour period even. That said, my Blenny did the same thing despite proper acclimation. He sort of hung out...

Never heard of ammonia killing the bacteria before. They eat the stuff so I assume they can live in pretty high levels of it. The only risk would be to desirable hitchhikers on your rock if any.

I would agree with Viper but not because of the tank size. Most of those fish are tiny. The neon goby and the firefish for example don't get too big at all. The problem is you don't seem to have that much filtration set up. If you had some kind of skimmer and a good amount of live rock, then...
