    emerald crabs

I have to agree with most everything posted so far. My emerald is always picking at something and never comes anywhere near my pearly jaw. Besides, most pearlies seal themselves up for the night under the gravel or a rock.

    6Line Wrasse vs Shrimp

My six line wrasse has never bothered my shrimp. Doesn't pay any attention to them. :)

    a murder!

Help!! My cc starfish just ate my camelback shrimp!! I couldn't find my shrimp anywhere then I noticed an antenna sticking out from under the cc. I flipped him over and there was the shrimp stuck to the bottom of the cc. Is this normal? They were living together just fine for weeks. Also...

    Do fish sleep?

It was fun to read up on everyones bedtime rituals. The jawfish that closes his shell door at night; too cute!!! I think I'll pile some shells up near my jaw's den and see if he does the same thing. I've noticed that my sea horse, Secretariate, tends to bob around in the water more after I...

    clown and anenome

I've been think about getting an anenome for my maroon clown. He spends a lot of time hiding behind a rock so I thought an anenome would do us both some good: he can hide, but I can see him more easily. I know you need special lighting for anenomes but could someone fill me in on the...

    fish euthanasia?

Does anyone know how to quickly and humanely kill a suffering fish? My fish are fine but I know they can suffer for days before actually dying. Just want to be prepared.

    life spans?

Just out of curiosity (and to see what kind of fish keeper I turn out to be) whats the life spans of the more common breeds of fish like clowns, tangs, wrasses, damsels, etc?

    aliens on live rock

I think my tank has been infiltrated by aliens. I just noticed these weird little white things that pop in and out of the live rock. The best description I can give is they almost look like little tiny anenomes. They are kind of whitish but mostly clear with a little irredescence to them...

    what exactly is "cycling"?

Thanks guys. All your info helped. The search button should be bigger and more obvious. I use it whenever I have a question now and I almost always find an answer. Sorry for being the dumb new kid on the block and asking questions that have been asked a million times already!

    pearly jaw fish

I just got a pearly jaw fish and as expected he immediately made his cave under a rock and I haven't seen him since. I know that this is the nature of this fish but how do I know if he's ok or even eating. I'd hate to think I spend 20 bucks on a fish I'll never see.

    maroon clown

I've had a maroon clown for about 10 days now and all he does is hide behind a rock. I know this can be a sign of poor water distress or illness but he looks totally fine and sheepishly comes out to eat a little bit. Just wondering if this is normal and if I can expect him to become more...

    what exactly is "cycling"?

Ok excuse my ignorance, I am new to whole salt water thing. I keep hearing and reading about the "cycling" of a tank. What exactly does this mean and how do you know what stage of the cycle your tank is at? I have a one month old 20 gallon tank with lots of live rock and I just recently...

    rust-like residue

After reading several messages I may have diagnosed my new tank's problem as diatoms. Just to be more specific, I would describe my residue as almost rust-like in appearance, maybe even slightly fuzzy. I have a piece of live rock thats almost complete covered with it and now it's starting to...
