Here's my 5.5 minibow. It used to be really pretty, but now i just use it to throw frags of xenia in, and to grow macro algae. Thats the only living things in it other than the coraline and a billion pods.
My grandma had a 2 gal hex with a couple tetras in it. Then my parents had a 11 gal hex with tropical freshwater. Not to mention all the goldfish i won at the county fail when i was little. Now i have a 46 bow reef, a 16 bow reef, a 5.5 bow with xenia and zoos and a 29 gal in fireplace freshwater.
I always just let mine mix for a couple hours. Then check that the salinity and temp are the same. Then just do the water change. I've never had any trouble like that.
You've either got an air leak somewhere in the intake line, or the canister filter itself is sucking air. Maybe a bad o-ring or gasket. Now all you gotta do is find it.
I didnt read the whole post so it may have been mentioned already. But good luck catching them when you wanna take them back. (damsels) I still have a 3 stripe in my tank cause i fell for what the LFS said too. Now he's mean as a snake and kills any new additions. I cant catch him without...
Sounds like cyano bacteria. A quick fix is a chemical treatment called "chemi clean". It works great, but you need to find the root of the problem. Its usually caused by overfeeding, or by overstocking the tank.
Sounds like your on the right track. I'd wait at least a couple days then test the water before moving anything back. I did this in my 46 gal and had no trouble at all. Everything survived and looks great. That was almost a year ago.
I think i have what your talking about in both my tanks. You may want to post a pic though. There are some like that that eat corals and some that dont. They're kinda hard to tell apart. The ones i have just crawl on the rocks and glass. I've never seen them on any of my corals

Not trying to hijack, but where could i find one of these. Im having the same problem
Its hard to say. Sometimes they will all get along just fine, and other times, two will gang up on one. I'd say leave them unless you have trouble. It you do, take the one that is getting picked on back to the LFS.
It wouldnt be a bad idea to put a power head in each of the bins to keep the water moving around the rocks. Congratulations on the new tank! Must be nice.
I have the same thing in my tank. One softball size rock, that constantly has green almost short hair looking algae. Its always had it, not matter how much the crabs and snails eat..
