    Fish tank stereo types?

you'd have to be a stoner with a heck of a lot of money IMO. Gonna have to choose one: illicit drugs or the fish tank cause people probably can't afford both! I'd go with the tank... it won't land you in jail :)

Cycling and not on a bicycle :-)

Well it sounds like you've got the cycle pretty much going good on its own. Just wait until your levels '0' out and follow jw's advice: Originally posted by jwtrojan44 The levels will drop on their own. Once the nitrates level off, you can do a 25% water change and your ready for some stock...

Agreed w/ dburr. Keep those filter pads clean and that skimmer should help, btw what skimmer did you order?

    ***** buyers beware!

***** prices are insanely high. I am not sure how they get away with it either. I don't buy anything from them except dog food when i am in a bind.

    euroreef ES5-2 for a 75

I just didn't have the money to fork over for the bigger models so I ordered an ES5-2 for my 58 gallon... still waiting for it... OMG why won't it get here! :) I've read many a good thing about the EuroReef so I hope I won't be disappointed (especially since it took a lot to convince myself and...

    nitrates

It 'should' help. I clean my mechanical filter(s) (pads and a 200 micron sock over the feed from the overflow) once a week when i do my water changes.

    nitrates

What is the filtration that you currently run? Adding a fuge with some Macro's should help as BB stated. If you run a lot of mechanical media (not a bad idea IMO if you are religious about cleaning it) junk may build up in those and cause high nitrates.

    Background colors - POST

I went with blue. But I am waiting until the coraline takes over the back :) I think that looks cool, others may not agree but whatever.

    Too late for RO/DI?

I started with tap and then switched to RO/DI... it made a huge difference. Never too late to start.

    Live Rock Question

You may not be happy with the damsels, but then again you may end up loving them... who knows? Coraline propagates exponentially, in a few months with good water quality you'll notice a coraline explosion, so don't worry about that :)

    Euro-Reef ES5-2

As per the revelation given to me by Bang Guy I finally believe that it is time to junk my old skimmer. Any opinions on the Euro-Reef ES5-2? I have about 70 gallons between my tank and sump. I found one new for $228.00. Good price? Any other recommendations around that price range? I'm just...

Can't get rid of this stuff!!

Thanks for the response Bang Guy. I had been wondering about that as they have been plaguing my tank since the beginning. Can I get you to call my wife and tell her that I need to buy a EuroReef :) lol! I'm using a SeaClone now and hate it. Do you think the two issues, surface scum and these...

    How does moving affect tanks?

I just recently moved a 44 into my new house. Found out I broke it two weeks later when SW started going everywhere so I had to move it into a new 60 gallon Oceanic. So i've moved twice in the past 5 months. It is a pain in the butt. But it is doable. Save as much water as you can, keep all your...

Can't get rid of this stuff!!

I am also battling some 'surface scum'. The diverter on my maxi-jet broke and I haven't been able to get the right amount of surface agitation for the past few days... the problems appear to be unrelated however. Or are they.... it seems to have gotten worse after I broke my PH. I think I may...

Can't get rid of this stuff!!

About the size of a grain of sand... they just won't go away! Some stuff (hairs and such that happen into the tank) hang out for a long time as well before they get picked up by my mechanical media as well... I just don't get it. Perhaps I need to increase flow through my sump? I hope not...
