something has to be causing them stress, what's it like after you leave? what time do you get there and leave? do you have a timer on the lights? do you have enough flow that' it's breaking the surface water (as subie suggested) you need it to be breaking the surface for proper exchange. If you had an exsiting tank what made you switch to pre mixed water from *****? it would be cheaper just to make your own, and that way you can adjust it to the way you want.

    hydor flo for 24 aquapod

go for it, I have on in my 8 gallon it's awesome, it's way better than just a direct flow going into the glass, as far as it fitting, it most likely will. It comes with a couple different size fittings that you'll be able to make work.

Your tank has only been set up two weeks. some other tips to control algae watch feeding, thaw out the cubes before feeding. watch light schedule, if it's fish only 8 hours...

    what is red algae?

the reason i mentioned flow is becuase if he had any dead spots in the tank where excess waste and food can just sit and linger til they cause problems. I would also suggest getting a timer for your lights they're 5 bucks at walmart, this way you can have a same set schedule everday not getting...

    Michaelwb's 8gallon biocube build!!!(pics)

I personally don't care, it's 8 gallons i can reach my hand in there and wipe it off, I would actually prefer that. I'll probably throw 2 turbos from my other tank in there maybe one they're pretty big. I do agree with the mag float though, in my other tank no rock touches except the back, this...
