    whats a safe size tank?

The tank size should be proportional to the size of the room. For a modest size apartment, IMHO, a 75 g will do but as you mentioned, you prefer a 3 digit number.

    start up supplies

I was also in a FWA for more than 10 yrs and just started in SWA. My first advice is to ask and do your research in this forum. They have many knowledgable people roaming around here. You mentioned in your list about the RO water. I think that is one of the important equipment if not the...

    protein skimmer

I am currently using the Aqua-C Pro with Mag3 and prefilter. It serves my SWA pretty well but I am still looking for a better HOB skimmer if there is one. Is there anyone here who used both the Octopus and Aqua-C that can give an unbiased review?

    My fish is turning black???

The hardest part in SWA is the initial cycle and waiting for that cycle to finish. It is always tempting to ge that first fish knowing that the cycle is not yet over or hoping that it is done.

As I read and stated by others, move the rocks around everytime you introduce a new fish. I am also new to SWA and their advice are sound and logical.

    Ich from SWF.com livestock?

At least do a fresh water dip if a QT is not possible. But it will stress the fish even more.
