    reef or coral book?

Well since I'm bored I'll throw in a redundant vote for Borneman's book. It is like the Coral bible.

    Are we nerds?

You are all such nerds. I want no further part in this.....ahhhhhhhh....ooowwwww.....nevermind, I guess resistance is futile;) I think we are all nerds to some extent. I am a jock, but also in Mensa. I might spend all day Saturday learning to play the violin and messing with my tank and then...

    All on or All off

The room shouldn't be a problem as most of the ballasts are on 15 foot wires to mount in the stand and you could put all the bulbs on one reflector anyway. But as you know the problem is the money still. I don't know of another way though I don't think it is a problem if they both come on...

    All on or All off

You can buy two ballasts for two bulbs but this will most likely cost you more.

    Good Beginner Coral?

Leathers can be toxic to other corals but mainly only when injured. They can release a toxin into the tank, for instance, if you cut one in the tank to frag it. They are usually, if not always, non-aggressive though. So they are generally safe to be next to anything else that won't sting THEM...

    Good Beginner Coral?

I agree with ags. Try some leathers, star polyps, and shrooms for the best bet. I also have heard many people say that they can't stop thier Xenia from growing but I have tried three times with two different types of Xenia and none of them made it while everything else in my tank is thriving...

    insurance question

I would pay it out of pocket just to keep your rating good.As far as houshold insurance costs go it is relatively inexpensive to replace and as was already said if you have a deductible you'll be paying most of it anyway. Sucks though:(

    Low lighting Corals?

There are also certain corals such as sun polyps which require no light at all but because of this require feeding. You may look into these types of corals as well. Sun polyps can be really nice looking and since most people feed their corals anyway it's not a problem to keep them fed.

    Smallest Reef Tank

I am pretty sure I am about to get a nice promotion and if I do I am going to put a 5 gallon in my new office and see how that goes. I have a 2 1/2 fw in my current office but I think it is too small.

    What corals w. this lighting?

Yeah Slick's not me (I don't know if that's good or bad for you:D ) but DT's Marine Snow, Microvert, Coral Accel, Golden Pearls, Baby Brine, and cocktail shrimp for those that take them. I like to mix it up in case some like one more than the other, besides I don't like to eat the same thing...

    What corals w. this lighting?

You could keep any mushrooms or softies as well as most LPS. I have a 220W on my 55 and I have everything growing like crazy and very happy. I do feed my coral alot though to make sure that any energy that they don't get from zooxalanthe(sp?) is made up for. It seems to be working until I get my...

I bought one of the ice cap ones withthe thermostat this summer and it hasn't gone offf yet. We'll see what it does this winter. It kept my tank cool though after adding new light so I'm happy with it.

I had some thin stalk xenia that looked pretty similar as well. Like Jon and Bang Guy said a pic of it closed up would make identification easier.
