Whats your Water changing set up?

I have three salt water tanks (90, 72, 30). I have a 32 gal plastic barrell that I fill at least two days before or more. I add the salt and a power head (maxijet 900) plus a heater. I let it sit a day covered then test the water for phosphate, sg, etc. I clean the tanks glass etc and then...

    Tank Broke Yesterday..... :-(

I know the feeling. My 75 all glass leaked while I was on vacation. It was pretty well established being over a year old and I had just started getting into corals. Came back and the floor was a mess, smelled like low tide, and the lights being on timers "melted" the corals to blobs. Good...

Watchman Goby / Six Line Wrasse Owners!

Mine are in my 90 with plenty of room. Six line minds his own business and the goby has a nice cave he rarely goes more that 3 inches from that hole.

    Bad advice from LFS store

If you strike out at the LFS on the return you may want to see if you can work a trade with someone else or try a craigs list. No sense in losing all that money. If there are only two stores 26 miles apart there may be someone else in the hobby that would welcome that fish and make a deal. Just...

    micro-bubbles and seahorse

Thanks for the info. I put a "filter" on the return (cut out a old mag foam filter) and that helped a great deal. I already had a small PH in there (the nano hydor Koralia) which was the smallest I had. I still think it may be too strong. If I don't see the bubbles cut back then I guess I will...

    LFS in Connecticut?

Hey ren - good to be back. I don't mind the manchester too much. A few nice folks but definitely some "sales" guys. I was able to deal with him a bit on the anthias and he gave me the best price on my 90 gal drilleld at wholesale. I do 90% of my stuff at wet pets or drygoods on line. Wet...

    Clean Back Glass?

I do a minor clean only when the algae gets a bit too much and nasty looking. I don't scrape all the good crusty growth and color off - just any hair agea that may build up. Like the others said I like that natural look. The sides and front I scrape every few days and I am really anal about...

AquaC Remora opinions are greatly valued

I bought the remora c HOB when I read up and everyone said it was he best around and would fit better. I have a coralife super skimmer and it is a HOB that is huge. The remora -c ran well at first but the microbubbles were way more than I expected and the small cup constantly needed to be...

    micro-bubbles and seahorse

What's the verdict on micro-bubbles and seahorses? Any harm to the SH? My new tank for SH does not use a sump so to save money I am using an aquac-remora HOB protien skimmer. I swapped it out from one of my other tanks two years ago for a coralife superskimmer. Now that I fired it up I...

Uh oh - too much blue scale light?

Thanks for the replies. That sounds like a decent amount of light for that depth. I know what you mean about the growth. I have one tank with 4 T5 HO's and I had to play around with the timers and the flow to keep things in control. STuff grows faster than it can be eaten and the hair stuff...

Good point. I didn't think about the growth from low flow.

Uh oh - too much blue scale light?

I just read this after posting my own question on lighting. I thought I did the search right but - oh well. Love to know how this turns out before I buy my lights. You mentioned T5 but I didn't pick up on the watts. How much watts and how deep is your tank?

    How much light?

New to sea horses but experienced with FOWLR. How much light do you recommend for a 30 XH tank? its 24" deep. I will not be doing coral (I always say that but end up changing later) but I have learned from my other tanks not to skimp on anything or I end up buying something twice. I would...

Are Aqua C Remora skimmer worth the $$

To me - no. But you also have to think of location and style. THe SS65 is pretty big and tall. THe remora c is smaller and compact. As a HOB it won't show as much.

Coralife Superskimmer or Red Prizm Deluxe Skimmer

I've used two SS65's for a while now and have very solid performance from both. I did try a aquac remora on one tank and went right back to ss65. Less trouble to keep running, far less money to buy. You wil learn what you do to make it "fill up". I find if I add fresh food , like a shrimp, I...
