I have a 90 perfecto w/ built in corner overflow and the pipes paid $290 at LFS. No lights or top or stand. I use egg crate for the top. I also checked into a 90 all glass with single overflow and it would have been $325 with the overflow tubes being an extra $30 or so.

you could get a spike and start a cycle. I bought base rock on line and added it to my QT tank. When I tested the Amonia level a day or two later it was through the roof. I'd soak it for a few weeks to make certain it was all clear.

I used an acrylic from a major craft store and used a smooth roller. After several coats it had great coverage. Cost me about $7 all together.

I have black background and I wipe it clean where I can reach. I say do what you like if its your tank. After 24 years of marriage I lost every room in the house and even the garage. All I have that is mine are the tanks!

Renogaw, glad you had success with local clams. I thought the warm water of our tanks would kill off the atlantic cold water type clam. If your LFS doesn't have any try some other folks who are into SWF and do a trade or see if they will sell some.

I did the big [hr] site and got a U tube model pretty cheap and I am happy so far. This was not the CPR type model, had 1 inch pipe and my lowes stuff fit fine.

Yes I got my first filter at a LFS in the pond section. Then I got a few online as it was a lot less expensive ($4 or so).
