Is this rite for cycling my tank?

Do you mean the HOB overflow? The overflow is what gets the water down to the sump. You don't connect the sump to a HOB skimmer. It is a pain in the neck to remove a UGF once you've got stuff sitting on top of it. I had to tear my entire tank down and build it back up again. Luckily I had no...

    Algae on Glass

Get a magfloat or something similar... they are the best. Some places you can find a pack with assorted sized magnets so you can get to 'problem' areas easily. I think they are much easier than the algae scrubber thingies with the handles. HTH

Is this rite for cycling my tank?

Mike: No problem! If you want to start keeping corals and other high-maintence stuff (not saying that fish are low maintence or anything) then consider getting the tank drilled and adding a sump and such. But for a fish only with some live rock you don't need to worry about that. I noticed in...

Did your trates peak at all? You may have missed testing the trate peak... give it another couple of days and retest... if all your levels are still around zero you may be finished.

    Water clarity

Give your skimmer time to break in... usually takes about a week or so...has it been pulling out any gunk? If it is the first time you have run a skimmer then two days isn't enough time IMO to judge the effectiveness of it... after a week of running my skimmer I woke up one morning and a cloudy...

    Hey Moderators, Southdown

yup that is a good idea! Southdown at the HD near me is about 1.25 a bag (yes a buck twenty five!, they may have been running a special when I bought it but I didn't much care about that:) ) it is by far the only cheap thing that I have found for my tank! As far as this site carrying it I think...

    In need of Southdown

Shipping costs for that kind of weight is outrageous when you don't have some sort of bulk shipping discount or some other means of shipping the stuff... that is why I posted the shipping estimates :) (go on usps or ups website and double check for yourself! it is insane!) I used to sell really...

    In need of Southdown

I'd be willing to do it but shipping and the box alone will run close to $50 for one bag with USPS (they only accept up to 70 pounds a box) if you want to do more w/ UPS it'll cost near 100 bucks for shipping. I've got the stuff at the local home depot for 1.25 a bag so that isn't a problem as...

Is this rite for cycling my tank?

If that is the case then a sump/refuge type setup is not really needed, you can save yourself the cash and spend it on some more rocks :) I'd stick w/ powerheads the cannister and a HOB skimmer and you will be golden for a FOWLR. Have fun!

Is this rite for cycling my tank?

agreed w/ above. i think it would be best to restate your intentions for short / long term use of the tank. My fish only tank has been running for just under a year w/ a cannister and skimmer only (no sump or refuge) with no major problems.
