    newbie

Welcome to the board! There is a wealth of information just under that search button in the upper right corner. But a few points to keep in mind: 1) It isn't cheap 2) A 30 gallon is OK, but a 44 or 50 would be a better starting tank in my opinion (no offense Buzz, just opinion) 3) It isn't cheap...

Pentair Aquatics (Rainbow Lifegard) Inline Filters

I have a chance to get it for about 20 bucks from an old friend. I figure it is a good deal just to have it around! I'd just like to know if anyone has had any experience with this product.

    Calcium question(s)

I agree with Bang Guy. If coraline is your only concern make sure your Ca levels are above 350. Keep a Ca supplement on hand just in case WC's do not do the trick... that way you can at least add back whatever happens to be missing. But reg WC's should keep it at the needed levels. HTH

    Setting up Sump, Help!

Make sure to drill the saftey hole below the waterline on the return line... otherwise if you loose power you will have a rather large mess on your hands. Something that a lot of people forget or don't think about in the first place. Having your tank drain is not a fun experience I would not...

    Live rock question

Even with LR bought from the LFS be very careful adding it to an existing tank. Unless you live 5 minutes away from the LFS and they pack it in a bucket full of salt-water so the LR is fully underwater. There will be die off if you are traveling any further than that, esp if the LFS just wraps...

    is this enough live rock?

I agree with MichaelTX. If you don't have any fish in the tank you can add a few pieces at a time with little to no problems. If you want to cure the LR first, you can do that in a large bucket or rubbermaid container with a powerhead and a heater. Just a thought. HTH

What gph pump do i need?

    1) what size overflow are you considering getting (what is the GPH rating). 2) how far (vertical) is the water going to have to go to make it back to the tank. One thing to consider when buying a return pump is the head loss.... most companies will publish a chart or something detailing that. HTH

    High Nitrates...still

You are in the midst of the opinion battle. The problem is when you get to this point, no one is right. Go with what you think will suit you best. People on this board have had really good luck with LS and not CC. My personal experience has left me with a negative opinion of CC, if that helps at...

Is this enough for a cleanup crew?

IMO get a few more hermits and some extra shells. Of course I'd also get more snails too, about 20. Again just my opinion. That should work fine for you though.

    sump overflow

is there a safety hole drilled into your return line? just a small hole to break the siphon a bit below the water line. If not that will solve your problem in the future. HTH
