I agree with all of the above.

I'm entering the saltwater hobby need advice please

While saltwater can be mixed in the new tank, I recommend mixing the water in a separate container. The reason is because you won't know if you've mixed enough water, or too much water if you mix it in an empty tank. Sand and rocks, assuming you'll be using those, is going to displace a good bit...

    Coral help!

Hmm... I thought most softies used silicate for supporting structure. Shows I still have a lot to learn... As far as Magnesium goes, it's consumed at a far lower rate than calcium and alkalinity. If he's able to keep cal and alk at acceptable levels by simple water changes, then mag...

    Trump tax plan

Agreed. He apparently has good speech writers, who write exactly what the people want to hear. He doesn't hesitate to speak his mind. He's a celebrity. He's also a ticking time bomb. I think if they give him enough rope, he'll hang himself. He burst out of the gate with a shot at Paul Ryan, but...

    Show off your tank(s)!!

Well, I'm glad we didn't!!! I hope you've gotten your BP under control, and you didn't hurt your head too much. If you're like me, your head can't take much more abuse... lol!!!

I'm entering the saltwater hobby need advice please

You don't mix the entire bucket, unless you need that much saltwater. Only mix what you need. The salt I use is Instant Ocean Reef Crystals, and I mix roughly 1/2 cup per gallon of water to start with, and after stirring for several hours, I check the salinity of the freshly mixed saltwater...

Good to hear from you again! Thought we'd lost you. Looking forward to your next cinema... err... presentation! LOL!!!

    Coral help!

I'd like to intervene... without getting my head ripped off, please. I kind of agree with both flower and mandy. It's best to check levels to make sure all of the primary elements are in proper proportions. That said, I can tell just by looking at the posters' alk and cal levels that magnesium...

    Trump tax plan

Agreed. She sounded very sharp last night. For me, the highlight of the night was when Fiorina gave the short rebuttal that ended with: ""I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said." OUCH!!! It'll be interesting to see how Trump fares with women voters after that...

    Back to basics- 29g adventure

Did anyone besides me notice that your response about the kids was very brief, and then you quickly turned the conversation back to your tank? Dude, you are sooooooooooooo addicted. Is there a support group for saltwater addicts? Oh... I forgot... this is a support group for saltwater addicts...

Help Me Add Final Fish to my Nano Tank

I had that problem awhile back. I switched to Soda Ash and it finally stabilized. I allowed my Calcium to drop between 420 - 450 ppm, and that seemed to help. Had to dose the new alk carefully, as it raises pH rapidly. I set my doser to add it in the early morning, and all is well. The Halimeda...

Bought a frag from my LFS

Not sure how common it is or isn't in our tanks, but just reading stories of palythoa toxica is enough to make me extremely careful around any of them. One of the most common issues with palytoxin comes from people boiling rocks that have zoanthids on them... most often unnoticed zoanthids...

Help Me Add Final Fish to my Nano Tank

You could easily add a couple of clown gobies. Great additions, get along with everyone, will eat anything, very cute, and stay small. They'll perch on rocks, or stick to the glass, depending on their mood... lol! I really like the yellow pair that I have in my 40B... ;)

Bought a frag from my LFS

Some palythoas contain palythoa toxica (palytoxin), although it's more common in zoanthids. This is the second deadliest poison known to man. Not many creatures will attempt to eat palys or zoas...

    Clownfish Concerns

Good for softies and some LPS, which will add a lot a lot of color and movement to the tank... but probably not going to be a suitable light for SPS.

Won't eat mysis? Wow... those are some stubborn fish. What kind of flake food are you feeding them? I've had a few brands that some of my fish wouldn't touch. I tried different varieties, and settled on my current brand... Cobalt Mysis Spirulina. I don't have a single critter that doesn't go...

Bought a frag from my LFS

Sorry about that. LPS stands for Large Polyp Stony. Most of these corals are photosynthetic, which means they have zooxanthellae algae living inside their bodies. This algae uses photosynthesis to create sugar that the corals use for energy. In return, the coral provides the algae with a safe...

    Lil trees?

Definitely not debris. Looks like a type of macro algae, but not sure which type (there are lots). Looks similar to Ochtodes, but I may be off by a mile. Stuff like this is usually beneficial to the tank. That's the beauty of buying live rock... you often get a few "bonuses" that hitchhike along...

    cloudy tank

Simple... feed more red flakes! Just kidding... they're probably not missing the other flakes. It's just easier for them to see the red, and they associate it with food. Try to feed other colored flakes at mealtime, and see if they'll figure it out. Perhaps they like the taste of the red flakes...
