Bought a frag from my LFS

Thank you! I bought a coral that came with the rock it was growing on, and a single polyp of this was also attached. Buying corals can come with a few surprises, and most of them are pleasant surprises. It's nice to get little "bonuses" along the way... lol!

Bought a frag from my LFS

Is this your new 55? How many 18" T8 bulbs does your lighting have? While visible light is good for our viewing pleasure, it's more important to provide corals what they need. You should think about what you want the tank to look like a few years from now. Do you envision it with a few soft...

    Clown choices

I remember when "designer" clownfish came out, and they were outrageously expensive. Now, you can buy a Picasso for less than $70, and a Snowflake for less than $50. Still expensive in my book, but far less than half of what they used to be. They are still clownfish, with the same personalities...

Bought a frag from my LFS

Congrats on getting your first coral, Mandy! The "beginner" corals are usually fairly cheap. If you're not careful, a time will come when $50 to $100 for a coral isn't too awfully bad... if you want it bad enough.

They're fine additions to a tank. Under good conditions, they multiply rather quickly. Sorry... I didn't mean to scare you. LOL!!!

Bought a frag from my LFS

Look like protos to me, too. For heaven's sake... don't feed them! Two or three will turn into dozens in no time with just good lighting and water conditions. I'd rather mine be a little hungry than to have to thin them out. Just saying...

Help dwarf seahorse stuck at birth

Flower would be the seahorse person who comes to mind for that question. She may not have noticed this post just yet, so I'd send her a message and ask if she has any experience with this situation.

Advice for 150 gallon set up

It can be either. Yes, it's surface area we're looking for, but it's easier to measure weight than square inches or feet. That said, most weight recommendations are for live rock, which is wet, and naturally weighs more than dry rock. If you use dry (base) rock or synthetic rock, you should...

Advice for 150 gallon set up

Circulation pumps or power heads are actually the same thing. You just need something to create flow inside the tank. You have 150 gallons, and typical recommendations are for 10x water volume, so you want a minimum of 1500 GPH of water moving inside the tank. Personally, I think this number is...

Advice for 150 gallon set up

1 - 1 1/2 lbs of rock per gallon is recommended to provide proper biological filtration for your system. This surface area is where nitrifying bacterial lives. This bacteria is vital to breaking down ammonia into nitrite, and nitrite into nitrate. Do you plan to have a sand bed? If so, the same...

    Back to basics- 29g adventure

Wow, she looks just like you, Seth... only prettier! LOL!!! Nice looking boy you've got there. Sis appears to be very happy with the new addition. Looks like he'll have a good babysitter. ;) Yeah, it's nice when you can finally dial in the daily dosage. About the time you get it figured out...

Clownfish Acting Weird After Moving Coral Beauty Angel

I'd keep an eye on the other clown. If it's bigger (but doesn't have to be) than the one that's acting strangely, it may be morphing into a female. All clownfish are born males, and the dominant one will turn into a female. They tend to become aggressive at this time, so it may be showing...

    Feather duster

You're welcome. Moving and handling them causes stress, so it's not unusual for them to cast their crowns at that time. It's a huge relief when you see that tiny new crown start coming out, isn't it? You got to witness a tiny fraction of the magical wonders that occur each and every day in our...

    I want a new fish...

As long as it's only a couple of them, I suppose it won't hurt. It can become epidemic fairly quickly, but it looks like the urchin has it under control. Emerald crabs also love bubble algae... ;)
