    Protein skimmer

I think we're getting closer. Sorry this is taking so long, I'm just not familiar with your skimmer. If there are no bubbles in the chamber then you've narrowed the problem down to the powerhead. It is not blowing bubbles like it's supposed to. When I look at the air tube leading to the air...

    Protein skimmer

Is the main chamber fill of bubbles? Is there a venture on the powerhead that can increase the quantity of bubbles? If it looks like it's full of bubbles then I'd suggest raising it out of the water until it starts to work.

    Protein skimmer

I'm skeptical on it. That said, it looks to be way too deep into the water. Is there an adjustment that makes it sit higher out of the water?

Looks like a really poor design for a skimmer. Can you tell us the make & model?

Marine fish dying and unsure why

It has nothing to do with the size of the Yellow Tang. It's the swimming habits of this fish. They require swimming room. Four feet just doesn't cut it. Six feet is the minimum in my opinion for long term health but it's definitely your choice. Best of luck.

    Cant keep fish alive

No definitive answers from me but a few thoughts: 72F is too cold for tropical Saltwater fish. I would suggest 80 - 85F but as you mentioned, temperature stability is probably more important than the actual temperature. A lot of people keep their system at 78F but the fish you listed all come...

    Cyano or Corraline ?

Looks like Coralline to me. Cyano comes off very easily and comes & goes with the light, coralline will turn white if you put it in the dark but it takes a few days.

    Hitch Hiker in my Tank

I can't really tell from the picture. It resembles Stomatella varians but your picture is too blurry to tell.

    Please help identify

Looks like some type of Zoanthid. As a guess I'd say Protopalythoa. Lettuce Slugs are hit and miss with Bryopsis so I wish you good luck on that one. Sometimes raising Magnesium levels to a high level using Kent Tech M can get rid of it. Not much actually eats it other than Chitons and...

    Total or free ammonia?

That's a good trait :-) Either ammonia test will be fine. They just need to show 0.00 ammonia as a result. This is only one component of a healthy system...

    New Saltwater Tank :)

I'm no expert on Triggers so please ask about the Huma Huma from someone in the aggressive forum. I'm just mentioning this because I would think a predator like a Huma Huma is just going to eat everything on your list once it acclimates to your tank. I think you'd have a rockin' display...

    Total or free ammonia?

I need a little background as to why you are testing. Test for free ammonia to determine if your water is safe or to track the progress of a tank cycle. Test total ammonia after a tank crash to determine how well the system is healing. Total ammonia of a healthy system will be 0.00 with...

    Total or free ammonia?

Free ammonia is the type that is toxic. Sequestered ammonia (total ammonia minus free ammonia) adds to the nutrient level of the system but is not toxic.

How does a Plate Coral move?

They move by inflating and deflating. Inflating gives them a larger surface area then by deflating one side or the other the current can shift them around.

If someone told you a Carpet Anemone will be fine in a 5 gallon aquarium then yes, they are either completely ignorant or are lying to you. I cannot tell you which. For me, personally, I tend to disregard the advice of liars and stupid people. Your decision though. For good advice, I would...

Sure. A 5 gallon tank will have rapid parameter fluctuations. This includes temperature, salinity, PH, etc. This means the only appropriate animals for a 5 gallon system need to be very tough and adaptable. The Shrimp you have is not adaptable enough to thrive in a 5 gallon system in my...

Adding a Carpet Anemone to a 5 gallon tank will have a 100% failure rate. Sorry for being harsh but what you are trying to do is impossible.
