    water changes

My recommendation would be to continue the water changes. A sump isn't going to make that any different.

    Help Help please help!!

In my experience they will spend the next two weeks creating a solid attachment and spreading the base around the rock. Then they will open and begin to grow.

Looks good. I know it's a shame to cut up a nice sized softie but it's a lot better to have a bunch of small ones to grow out than one large rotting corpse. I'm not a fan of the rubber bands but I know they can work. Just my preference.

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

I think each macroalgae is different as well. Red seems to do best with more blue light and green seems to do better with more yellow light. For Chaetomorpha algae I've had the best growth with an incandescent halogen light. I think it likes the extra heat. I used to harvest 6 gallons of...

    High alkalinity..

I would first test the salt water you just mixed to see if it's high as well as test the well water. It could be a bad batch of salt. Not likely but it has been known to happen.

    red fire shrimp

I'll assume we can rule out starvation and osmotic shock. They are very sensitive to toxins, any chance of that? Excess Iodine is what kills most of the ornamental shrimp early.

    Mixing chromis

I think it's the swimming pattern vs the size of the fish. I'm beginning to think that being cooped up raises their aggressiveness toward each other. For example, you can raise a parrot in a 2 X 2 foot cage for 50 years but a hummingbird would die in a week.

    High alkalinity..

Yes, it's likely your well water has carbonate. Your well water is also probably high in other undesirables as well - phosphate, copper, zinc, etc. What all was it tested for?

    High alkalinity..

I don't think either of those products contain Carbonate or Borate so wouldn't raise Alkalinity. Are those the only things you dose? Are you using RO water? Does it have a low TDS reading? Have you tested freshly made saltwater? For the level you're at I see no reason to actively lower it...

    Help Help please help!!

One trick I use on loose frags is to pinch the frags between two small pieces of rock and use superglue gel to glue the rocks together. This keeps the frag from floating around so it can be placed in a healthier area with better water flow.

    Help Help please help!!

Use a new razor blade (like from a carpet knife) to cut. If it were me, I would cut away everything that was obviously decaying and discard. Then I would cut everything that looks live but has algae on it and save as frags. The rest I would leave to see if it heals on the rock. I would lay...
