    Kalkwasser + Calcium Chloride?

First - " my Specific gravity is about .24" Thank you thank you thank you. So many people would say their salinity is 0.24 which is about the same salinity as tap water. Thanks for saying S.G. Much appreciated. I agree with Snake that you may have a bad batch of salt. Mix some up and...

    Kalkwasser + Calcium Chloride?

Short answer - NO - you cannot add Calcium chloride to a Calcium hydroxide solution to increase the Calcium delivery. It will actually have the exact opposite effect. Now, we need to discover why your system is consuming Calcium faster than Alkalinity. Three common mistakes come to mind - 1)...

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

That looks like a tiny light if it's CF. Could it be the algae is starving for light?

Yeah, they may actually pull it off but I have my doubts. I've never seen anything indicating the animal rights people give any concern regarding fish cruelty. I think that's mostly limited to our hobby.

You can hate it but ghost feeding is the best way to cycle a tank I have found. Buying additional bottled bacteria at this time is pointless.

    Mixing chromis

I think this is a very interesting question. I have no experience with mixing Chromis but I would like to know what would happen.

You're probably right. Unfortunately the other 3 tanks were full of Clownfish as well. They were only there until I had a chance to take them to the LFS.

The new algae you are seeing and the live rocks are probably consuming all of the Nitrate at this point.

I'm not seeing a problem here. You don't want to spike anything. Clearly the bacteria in your system are handling the nutrients you are adding. Sounds fine to me.

    Bio-diversity: my thoughts

I like buying at least some of the aquacultured live rock. They can harvest in in the morning, pack & ship it in the afternoon and you open the box the next morning. If you take good care of this type of rock it will be totally loaded with rock fauna. It does come with some undesirables that...

    Diatoms or cyano?

I disagree with Reefkpr (could be the first time). In my experience Cyano decreases significantly and rapidly when it's dark while Diatoms hang in there.

Hello im new to salt water tanks need some help on equipment

Is there any chance you can take the 55 gallon tank back to the store? The size & shape of the 55 is terrible for saltwater. If you can trade for a 40 gallon breeder or a 75 gallon you will be a LOT better off.

    water changes

I've had hundreds of Clownfish in the same tank on many occasions. Nobody is arguing that it can't work for a little while. The issue will rear it's ugly head within the year.
