    Snake's Guide to Cycling

I'm not following the connection between a large water change and adding bottled bacteria. Can you elaborate a bit on that?

What I thought was high ammonia is apparently a sickness.

Is there any chance a visitor dropped something into the tank? It's starting to sound like a chemical spill.

    cycling my 100 gallon marine

It will work. Since you have rock from a previously established aquarium you have a good head start. The rock will already have bacteria colonies. Your goal now is to get those colonies stable. They need food (the shrimp will provide), and a lot of waterflow. My only concern is that a...

    Back Up power

For the money I'd suggest a generator. I understand that's not possible everywhere. Baitkeeper airpumps are surprisingly strong. You'll need a good set of charged batteries.. The Ecotech back up seems good but looks expensive for what you get. Last would be an inverter from your car.

I didn't know that. I love this place!

    Sump... sump... sump...

Once you think you have the right levels do a power outage simulation to verify the sump doesn't overflow and that everything starts back up automatcally.

Advice please on first time breeding of clown fish and anemones

If you're in it for the money I would recommend Koi and avoiding saltwater fish altogether. Second to Clownfish would be Banggai Cardinalfish. Of the thousands of Clownfish I've raised, all of them sold immediately. There is no shortage of buyers. What Snakeblitz is indicating is true, the...

    Zoa Pox?

They do not contain Palytoxin, that's a myth. However, they do definitely have other toxins that have the potential to make you sick. Running GAC will help remove most of the toxins. Be sure to use gloves if you have to handle the dying colony. Sorry I'm not much help on saving the colony...

    Older Tank... Reseal?

It wouldn't hurt to take a razor and trim away any loose pieces of silicon.

    112 Gallon Build

The bulb will support many types of corals. Unfortunately, because of the color of the light it's going to look really ugly.

What I thought was high ammonia is apparently a sickness.

It's quite common for fish to succumb to disease or parasites when stressed. Ammonia is definitely something that will stress a fish. Fish are normally pretty much immune to Ick except when they get stressed. Tangs are often called Ick magnets because they are often placed into stressful...

    Looking for Aquascaping Tips/Ideas **

Flaked food for maintaining an ammonia level during the cycle is fine. Feed about what you would feed your first fish. The idea behind ghost feeding is to maintain a low and steady supply of ammonia to grow bacteria colonies. Low for me is 0.25ppm - 0.5ppm. It's just an opinion but I do not...

    Looking for Aquascaping Tips/Ideas **

One tip if you are not gluing the rocks: Always have each rock supported by three points. Not two points, not four or five, exactly three points. This will allow the rocks to shift slightly and still be just as stable.

    55 gal reef tank ideas/suggestions

It makes sense. I'm just partial to a tank with more front to back depth. I've found the 55s to be really difficult to aquascape.

    Looking for Aquascaping Tips/Ideas **

If the tank is cycled then the sand will not cloud for very long, if at all. The bacteria tends to keep the sand down.

    New Hobbyist: 20 Gallon?

I don't view a sump as filtration at all. It's a tool that opens up a lot of options, nothing but a tool.
