    online fish order

Four fish at once has the potential to overwhelm the system. t will probably be fine but if you're like me you like having a higher confidence level than probably. What I would recommend it that you slowly increase the amount of food you feed your fish. Try to time the increased food supply...

what would be a good firefish tankmate

I agree ATO is important on smaller tanks to maintain a stable salinity. This was the ATO for my 10 gallon.

    Typical new person here

Macroalgae's main advantage can be it's greatest downfall. During a cycle the macro will rapidly consume ammonia, keeping it low or non-existant. Too low to build up a stable bacterial colony. Once the Ammonia source is slowed the macroalgae can begin to starve triggering a sporulation event...

    cooking rocks?

My thoughts on cooking are a bit different. I would place the rock in a good sized container with plenty of water, waterflow, and a heater cranked up to 85 or 86. Then add vodka or some other sugar occasionally to increase bacteria activity. I would only cook rock that was live a one point...

    Antenna Goby with a Firefish?

Normally they hook up with a Pistol Shrimp (who can dig but doesn't see very well). They don't need the pistol shrimp but do best with a cave on or near the bottom. They'll hang out at the entrance to the cave so you needn't worry about them disappearing. Here's a pic of the one I had:

    Antenna Goby with a Firefish?

Yes, they inhabit different areas of the tank so will be compatible. Since you don't have a pistol Shrimp is there a way you can provide the goby with a cave? They naturally live in a small cave but they cannot dig. Perhaps a piece of PVC or stack a couple rocks for it.

    Preferred method(s) of filtration?

Actinic light is actually right on a photosynthetic peak. So, even though it looks dim to us to photosynthesizing organisms it's very useful, especially dinoflaggilates. For a dark area what I'm considering is a layer of starboard supported about 4" from the tank bottom and using a cpuple...

I know erythromycin will kill Cyanobacter. I had no idea it affected hair algae. Interesting.

    Preferred method(s) of filtration?

I think my next system, if it ever happens, will be live rock & skimmer as the only filtration. I've pondered the idea of having a dark zone loaded with sponges but haven't worked out the technical difficulties on that one yet.

what would be a good firefish tankmate

You'll want some pretty good light for Xenia and GSP. I would suggest starting with some Mushrooms and see how those do. Ricordea Yuma don't require intense light and can look good.

The algae pattern on your rocks is consistent with those I've seen from rocks that have been exposed to high ammonia levels. How did you cook your rocks? Not that it matters now but I'm interested.

    ID Help please

OK, I'm thinking Astrangia sp. This is a stony coral that doesn't need light. It will need food though. Any meaty seafood bits will do if you want to keep it.

Can you describe this a little better? I see some tentacles on the far right that look like Hidden Cup Coral. Are those the tentacles I should be looking at?
