You can control bubble algae biologically with a couple of emerald green crabs, who love the stuff. I have also found that they are easy to remove safely using a dental scraper that I got from my dentist. It is sharp and scrapes the algae right off at their bases without breaking the bubbles.

I have these all over my sump, overflows and equipment. I believe they are calcareous tubes of marine worms. I have never had a problem with them except when they begin to interfere with the operation of mechanical equipment.

Five gallons in 2-3 days is not impossibly large, particularly for a larger display.

It sure sounds like a bacterial bloom. Be sure to have plenty of water movement throughout the tank since the bacteria will lower oxygen levels.

Good question! My view would be that shy is different from aggression, so I would still add the fish last. I would quarantine it for 4-6 weeks just to fatten it up so that if it does become intimidated in the display it will have energy reserves until it begins to graze.

What kits are you using? I have never gotten a positive reading for ammonia on tap water, so I'm guessing that you are getting a false positive. It does sound like your tank has cycled, but this early you want to be sure to add organisms slowly so the tank has a chance to adapt. You might also...

No - it can take 2-6 weeks for ich to appear. Be patient, even though it's hard.

Sounds to me like you had a soft cycle. If you are producing nitrates then you have the bacterial colonies established. To start, add stock slowly, one animal at a time, weeks apart, and monitor ammonia levels. If they do happen to spike, use Amquel Plus as a temporary fix.
