Please need help picking buddy for large Foxface..

If you do go with tangs, be sure to feed nori and other nutritive greens frequently. Both the foxface and the tangs consume vast amounts of algae, and you may not be able to grow enough in the display to satisfy them.

Newbie needs a little advice on 55 gallon fish only tank

Yeah, there are two schools of thought on filtration on this forum - canister and not-canister. Each side has its arguments for and against, but the right answer is that if you feed the proper amount of food, do your water changes regularly and police up waste then it probably doesn't matter...

    Lion acting strange

Many years ago I inherited a lion (volitans) that only ate goldfish. I tried to convert him to fish flesh, but he was insistent that it had to be goldfish. So I cut open a goldfish and stuffed it full of shrimp, or clam or tuna or whatever I had, and fed the lion like that. He did fine, and...

Bubble Tip Anemone positioned where I can't see it!

I have had my RBTA for about 2-3 months. I set it up on a rock island with flow around it and good lighting. First, it went for a walk and tried to feed itself into a powerhead. After I rescued it and replaced it on its island it went for another walk to a nice spot behind the rockwork...

How to lower the temperature in your Aqurium

In order for the fan to cool the tank it must blow across the surface of the water -you cannot have a cover on the tank, which would block evaporation. When water evaporates it uses up 596 calories of heat energy, lowering the temperature as a consequence. If the tank is covered so that...

    Adding Fish Help

I'm confused. How did you cycle the material in the buckets - with fish, ammonium chloride or ghost feeding? Also, be aware that you really cycled the rock and the walls of the buckets, so just adding the water from "cycled" buckets did not result in a cycled tank. The bacteria necessary for...

New Aquarist interested in advice / suggestions for a SW Predator Tank

You said that your grail fish was an eel. Do some internet research on how to build a tunnel system for eels using PVC buried in the sand bed - very neat idea, and your eel will be happy, and visible to you. Also, eels are escape artists (I remember chasing a blue ribbon eel across the room...

    Algae Harmful?

I wish I had $.05 for every hobbyist who complains that they have "perfect water conditions" (no nitrates, no phosphates) and an algae problem - I would have many much larger tanks. They can't understand how, in the absence of nitrate and phosphate the algae are thriving (indeed, taking over)...

    What's this?

You guys may be right about the shrimp molt. It disintegrated just the way a shrimp molt does when disturbed. Nevertheless, it was an interesting event in an otherwise pretty boring day. One of the invertebrate zoologist s in my department suggested that aliens were trying to establish contact...

    What's this?

Almost 40 years in this hobby, and this morning I found something new going into/coming out of/living on my 3 year old duncan. Does anybody have any idea what's going on here? It is in the oral disk of one of the polyps. All of the other polyps are completely normal.

Couple questions about Plumbing my tank.

I assume you mean PVC tubes, not acrylic. Otherwise, should work, but remember that the flow rate is limited by the smallest diameter pipe, regardless of how many "Y" fittings create additional cross sectional area. Keep posting the build, it should be fun.
