How should I go about cleaning up my tank?

You could remove everything to Rubbermaid buckets and start new, but I wouldn't. The tank has only been in operation for 5 years, which is not that long a time. The low nitrates and perfect pH tells me that the water quality is probably fine, so not to panic. I have had tanks go continuously...

    100 gallon fowlr aggressive aquarium

My main advice is SLOW DOWN! When you say that the tank has been running for 2 weeks, does that include cycling time, or did you add sand, rock and fish all at once two weeks ago? Puffers are very sloppy eaters, so the bioload from wasted food is considerable and, assuming that the tank was...

My 75 Gal Tank Update.....with a couple of questins

Assuming that you have properly cycled the tank, do not put your new lr directly into the display - there will be a die-off that will kill the two fish you already have in there. Put the rock into a plastic bucket with water and a circulating pump and give it a few weeks before introducing it...

    40 gallon beginner tank

Dwarf Regal Tang is another name for a hippo tang, which should not be in a 40 gallon system - tangs are open water fish who need lots of straight line swimming room, 5-6 feet is best. The cute little ones they sell are just too small, and don't survive. The 40 is just too short. The last of...

    75g Set Up Advice

For a FOWLR the trickle filter will be fine, just keep an eye on the nitrate levels long-term, and make regular water changes. Your bleached coral heads are fine, but you might consider adding one or two pieces of live rock just for the micro fauna they will bring. It is hard to tell from the...

    Is this diatom?

How are you cycling the tank? What are the nitrogenous waste readings? At the 30 day point of a cycle it is most probably diatoms.

    100 gallon brand new tank

Do not put any fish in the tank on Thursday. Instead, read the guide for new hobbyists that is a stickey in the New Hobbyist forum. In particular, take a look at how to properly cycle a new tank so all of your fish will have a chance to survive.

    Wrasse Compatibility

We have the following in our 220 gal. system: 5" red velvet wrasse, 4" yellow coris wrasse, 2 1/2" seagrass wrasse and a 2" yellowfin fairy wrasse. They all get along fine. I think the key factors (other than avoiding aggressive species of wrasses) is frequent small feelings and ample rock work...

Trav; Some of the best starter information you will find anywhere is in the sticky at the top of the NewHobbyist forum. Ask lots of questions here - there are many highly knowledgeable hobbyists here who, while they sometimes disagree with each other, invariably give solid advice and guidance.

Mixing water for 55 gallon and marineland c-360

You could run tun the canister, or not. All you need is constant circulation. Be sure to add the water to the tank first, then the salt; never the reverse order. Freshly made salt water must sit overnight before use, although since there is no livestock in the system it doesn't really matter...

    Help!!!!!

If the anemone was a bubble tip anemone, then wandering is just what they do. The only rule about them is that they will settle down someplace where you don't want them to be - behind a rock, or some other place where a decent ******** decorator would never place them. There are lots of...

Brand new to saltwater need help

Miami gaqve you some good advice, but there is one big mistake there - a myth that keeps getting propogated. Fish do not grow to fit the tank they are in. What really happens is that in a small tank it is very difficult to maintain good water quality, so the fish's growth is stunted. In a...

    ?

You can get egg crate in the lighting section of Lowes or Home Depot, for example. Cut it to size and replace the glass (or some of it) with the egg crate. It passes light in, and CO2 out, and allows evaporative cooling to help keep your tank cool in warm weather. Be sure to watch the water...

    High Nitrates, Need Advice

You are on the right track. You might consider reducing your feeding and adding a nutrient export tool, maybe chaeto in your sump or an algae turf scrubber. Keep doing water changes regularly. Your nitrates are very high for inverts, and those levels will eventually cause fish problems too.

question about mixing of the fish

Don't be misled when we say anything that will fit into a lion fish's mouth. When you look at their mouth, it looks relatively small. The true size of the mouth is approximately the size of the animal's body at its largest point, so it is pretty large when it decides to gape.
