    question about curing rock

Have you set your tank up yet? If you have no live stock in your tank just place the rock in your tank and turn on the mechanical filters and power heads and get the water stirring. Then just let it sit for a month till your cycle levels come down.

    Mexican Snails/Short Lived?

Off the top of your head is the tongan region lower or higher? I've seen some nassarius snails from there as well as fighting conches which i sure could use for my sand bed, why i was buying the ceriths......

    Mexican Snails/Short Lived?

Considering my tank was 80+ yeah could be. I knew the red foot snails were temperature sensitive but i didn't think the mexicans were. Why i am asking.... But that would certainly explain why my snails are dying for no reason. I guess i won't buy them anymore.....

Honestly.. Too much light, about 12Watts/Gal ?

For shame. You think its too much :) Place the shrooms/polyps in the shade of your tank and they will do just fine. As i recall 90s have a center brace. Create a ravine in the middle and put them there..... My friend get ready to keep some REALLY nicely colored SPS corals. One thing i...

    Here's where I stand -- More LR?

Your cycle may be prolonged but it sounds like its moving into the final nitrate stage. I would get the rock out of the way sooner rather than later. Youll be greatful for it. Try finding some base rock to so you can fill out your tank. It will turn into live rock over time and save you alot...

    sick of MH

10k is closer to daylight while 20 will be bluer. And with 250 halides you can keep just about anything.

    Acropora under VHO's: A Test!

Well they will definitely live. Don't get me wrong. Color is another matter entirely. It would be nice to know what happens. I've definitely broken the halide/sps rule and used just pcs and was pretty pleased with the growth i got. Color was another matter..... Just keep that in mind when...

What is the inch per gallon ratio

Its a combination of all of that. There are more hiding places, more "natural" food to be had, and the all important more bacteria. More bacteria means being able to sustain a higher bioload. This is also contingent on your clean up crew. If you have just fish and nothing to eat their waste...

will this work for a reef tank?

Well. The coral banded will hold his own for a little while. BUT will eventually be eaten by one or the other inhabitants. Coral bandeds release their claws and run. They won't be able to run very far in your tank. Unfortunately no fish in that tank. Better off getting crabs. Since you...

    Acropora under VHO's: A Test!

Good luck man. I had an acro under 130 pcs in a 20 and it didn't grow much and was a nice brown. I kept it alive because it was practically free and i knew i was getting a halide. Some of my other sps corals did quite well and grew nicely though. I will tell you the acro will probably loose...

What is the inch per gallon ratio

That rule is just a loose rule. Your mix of fish is definitely good and even that allows for more fish. The fish you have picked are on the smaller size allowing you to add more fish but I would keep in mind it takes quite a while for your fish to reach adult size. My green chromis are barely...

    adding water??????

When you first set up your tank it doesn't matter how you do it. BUT you do need to keep track of how many gallons you actually put in your tank. Then you can add a half cup per gallon of water rounding up for whatever fractions you end up with. In the future you will need to mix the water...

    Mexican Snails/Short Lived?

Potentially but i've been very good about keeping it steady. That still doesn't explain why just those snails? Why not everything else in my tank? Maybe someone will know.

    Mexican Snails/Short Lived?

You know.... I contemplated the copper thing but ive got all kinds of inverts in that tank doing well, as well as corals so i doubt that. My calcium was quite high at one point but that was over a month ago maybe longer. Maybe it was the calcium that did it???

    Regal Tang

mmmm. So how big is the tang? If he's a couple inches then your tank is to small and thats why.

    Lawnmower Blennies

You can always buy dried algae strips from a lfs for them to eat. I have seen them eat meaty foods as well so not to worry. Mix up their diet while they are eating whats in your tank. You shouldn't have any problems. And of course try and get a fish that's already eating if you do get it...

my tank is up but the cycle wil not start

Cool. Just wait for the rock. I wouldn't waste any more money on live stock. It will just end up dying and youll wish you never spent the money. Be patient with the initail setup. It takes time. Youll have fish soon enough. Back to the chems. The cycle helper is fine whatever it was...
