Is this a good protien skimmer

They work but are not the best of skimmers. I had problems with it clogging and the water flow through it reducing so much the power head lost its suction and didn't pull water. A seaclone skimmer from petsmart would work well too and might be a bit quieter. Prisms are very loud in relation...

    New Set-Up

I would drop the manderin and get a foxface and you should be fine. Manderins are hard to keep and should be kept in reef tanks. Do some research on this board about them youll see. Other than that you should be fine with the fish you want.

    Coral Crisis

yes it will support some but not most. You must really do your research on that one. I used to have a 20 gallon high with a 130pc light on it. I had a montipora capricornus, monti digitata, and a seriatopora that grew very well. BUT they were lower end sps corals. You will not be able to...

My better half, wants a Nano Tank-which one do I buy??

Instead of doing an anemone consider a coral that is similar in appearance to an anemone. Clowns will host in many different corals and said corals are much easier to keep alive.

    Coral Crisis

No need to bump my friend that 96 watt quad is the best you can do for a 10 gallon short of a 70 watt halide. Most any coral you want will do fine with it.

    Yellow Tail Damsels

Get them used to eating from you then set up a big plastic container. When they go for the food scoop the whole container out. You may catch some of the fish you want to keep but it will be much easier to put them back in once you have them in the container. Just make sure you don't get...

    anyone near Raleigh/Durham, NC?

I used to live in Raleigh. I worked at Fish Pro's for a bit. There are two guys there that keep up the 120 reef in the store. Kevin and Brian. Both have awsome home tanks. Its been a while since I've seen either of them but they used to work Tuesday and Thursday nights. Either of them only...

    Flower pot coral and requirements

They usually die about anywhere from 6-12 months after you purchase it. Its due to the fact that their is something an enclosed system just simply lacks. I would never buy an elegance coral as well. Im not sure about goniopora but elegance corals thrive in lagoonal situations which are...

    pregnant clown goby???

How long ago did the other one die? Its very unlikely they mated in such a short time. It looks more like your fish has either over eaten or has a parasite in their stomach. Keep in mind fish lay eggs which are then fertilized. So a fish wont look pregnant in the traditional way we may think.

    Id

A lesson to you to find out what you are getting before you actually buy it. If you have to ask what it is after you get it then you should have never gotten it. As a side note i would suggest not buying any fish for your tank for a month or at all. Let it develop some. You have 15 frikin...

Longspine Urchin and Red Bubble Algae

Rabbitfish go by the name of foxfaces commonly. There are other types of rabbits but the fox is the most common. Great fish if you can fit them. They do eat bubble algae but i can't really keep one in a 50 gallon. They need a 75 plus to mature properly. mmmm. Maybe someone will know. Maybe...

Longspine Urchin and Red Bubble Algae

I recently purchased a 50 gallon breeder(pretty tank :)) and will be combining tanks. In my 20 I have the dreaded red bubble algae growing in patches all over. Aside from physically removing them, my local LFS owner has said that a longspine urchin will eat them. He's been in the fish biz and...

    DIY Metal Halides

Completely off the topic but i would try for a 50 breeder tank. You can have one ordered from any allglass carrier and it will give you 10 more gallons in the height aspect as opposed to the length or width with any other tank. I just got one myself :) As for the type of halide bulb. I...
